Fulham are weighing up Marco Silva’s Craven Cottage future with the Whites in poor form heading into the November international break, reports talkSPORT.
The west London side sit just one point above the relegation zone after the opening 11 games of the season following a run of five defeats in the last six league games in the wake of Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Everton.
Fulham’s only win in that run came against table footers Wolves, who were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute.
Fulham boss out of contract in the summer
Tensions are rising behind the scenes due to Silva’s reluctance to sign a new contract at Craven Cottage.
Silva’s current deal expires at the end of the season, while he has never been one to shy away from criticising the club’s lack of spending in the summer transfer market.
Fulham spent big to sign Brazilian winger Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk, while they also added Jonah Kusi-Asare and Samuel Chukwueze arrived from Bayern and AC Milan, respectively, on loan.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte was the other permanent addition to the squad, though he serves as backup for Bernd Leno between the sticks.
'He's in our long-term plans'
Club owner Shahid Khan did state that Silva was part of the club’s long-term plans last month, stating: “He’s been great. I really like him, not only as a person, (but) as a football manager, head coach. Definitely, I think he’s in our long-term plans.”
However, the downturn in form combined with concerns that Fulham will be dragged into a relegation battle is a worry for the club’s decision makers
Silva guided Fulham to their highest ever Premier League points tally last season and his future at the club has been subject to speculation in recent months.
Silva was linked with Fulham exit earlier in the year
Indeed, Al-Hilal wanted the Portuguese boss in charge for the Club World Cup, before the Saudi side opted for Simone Inzaghi.
Tottenham, meanwhile, were credited with an interest in Silva following their decision to sack Ange Postecoglu, while Nottingham Forest were linked with the 48-year-old after they themselves relieved the Australian of his duties following his ill-fated 39-day spell at the City Ground helm.
Spurs and Forest would go on to appoint Thomas Frank and Sean Dyche, respectively.
Fulham will hope to see a return to winning ways after the international break when they face high-flying Sunderland at Craven Cottage.
The Whites then round off the month with a trip to a Tottenham side that boasts the second worst home record in the division.
