Nottingham Forest begin life under Sean Dyche when they welcome Porto to the City Ground in the Europa League on Thursday.

Former Everton and Burnley boss Dyche was named Forest's third head coach of the season after club owner Evangelos Marinakis opted to bring Ange Postecoglou's tumultuous 39-day reign to an end immediately after Saturday's Premier League defeat to Chelsea.

That 3-0 loss extended Forest's winless run in all competitions to 10 the last four of which have ended in defeat and things will not get any easier when they entertain in-form Porto.

The Portuguese giants are unbeaten this season, winning 10 of their 11 games, including both matches in the Europa League, and they will be hoping to spoil Forest academy graduate Dyche's City Ground homecoming.

Team news

Ola Aina is Forest's only confirmed injury absentee, with the full-back still recovering from hamstring surgery, while Taiwo Awoniyi, Omari Hutchinson, Jair Cunha and Angus Gunn are all ineligible to feature in the Europa League.

Dyche could make changes from Postecoglou's final starting XI, including handing a return to forward Chris Wood, a player he knows well from their time together at Burnley.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and club captain Ryan Yates are among the other players hoping for recalls.

Porto will be without injured duo Luuk de Jong and Nehuen Perez, as well as Tomas Perez and Yann Karamoh, who are both ineligible.

Among the familiar names in Francesco Farioli's squad are ex-Southampton defender Jan Bednarek, fellow centre-back Jakub Kiwior, who is on loan from Arsenal, and former Norwich City forward Borja Sainz.

The stats

Nottingham Forest are on a 10-game winless run across all competitions and have only taken one point from their opening two Europa League games.

Porto are unbeaten this season, winning 10 of their 11 matches and they are a perfect two wins from two in the Europa League.

This will be Forest's first ever competitive meeting with a club from Portugal.

Porto will be playing their 50th European game against English opposition, but they have only won 10 of the previous 49.

Forest have not won a European match since beating Lyon 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Cup last 16 tie during the 1995-96 season.

Prediction

In time, Dyche should make Forest more resilient and hard to beat, but the 54-year-old was only appointed on Tuesday and has had very limited opportunities to work with his squad.

That does not bode well heading into this clash with a Porto side who have won 10 of their 11 games this season, the only blip on their copybook being a goalless home draw with Benfica at the start of the month.

Farioli's side are a perfect six wins from six away from home, which includes a Primeira Liga victory at Sporting CP and a 1-0 success at FC Salzburg in the Europa League.

Porto are a team with plenty of European pedigree and will fancy their chances of bursting the Dyche bubble before it even gets going.

However, siding with the visitors in the draw no bet market may be the safest play, just in case Forest do enjoy something of a new manager bounce.
