Ferencvaros have won three and drawn two of their first five Europa League matches in the league phase, which places the Hungarian side in sixth place, meaning that they have an excellent shot of securing an automatic place in the knockout stages.

Rangers, a team famed for their European exploits both recently and back in the past, have struggled this season.

A 6-0 defeat by Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifiers was embarrassing enough, but the Ibrox side now sit 33rd in a 36-team league phase after securing just one point from 15.

Team news

The home side could be without the services of Alex Toth as he is suffering with a knock, while Stefan Gartenmann is also a doubt for the match along with Krisztián Lisztes.

Goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz will miss the game and he remains the only player officially ruled out by the Hungarian outfit.

Rangers have several injury issues. Central defender John Souttar will remain absent after suffering an injury on international duty last month.

Oliver Antman is expected to be out for six weeks with a muscle injury, while Mohamed Diomande is suspended for this game.

Midfielder Joe Rothwell is also absent from the Gers squad.

The stats

This meeting between Ferencvaros and Rangers will be the third between the clubs in European competition.

They first met during the 1960/61 season in the European Cup Winners' Cup, with the Scottish side winning 5-4 on aggregate. They went on to reach the final that season, losing to Fiorentina.

While the home side come into this match in far better form that the Glasgow giants, this could prove to be a tight affair.

Under Danny Rohl, the Light Blues have improved in recent weeks and last time out in Europe, Rangers drew 1-1 with Braga.

This was one of their 10 draws this season already, while the hosts have drawn seven matches.

In the Europa League, Rangers have scored just two goals, conceding nine across their five matches.

Ferencvaros have found the back of the net on nine occasions, while conceding five times.

Prediction

Considering both teams and their respective form, it would appear that a home victory is the most likely outcome.

Rangers did look much better in their last European game, although they failed to defeat the ten men of Sprting Braga in the end.

That result means they are at least off the bottom of the league phase standings and the Gers have the capabilities to snatch something in Hungary on Thursday.
