Tottenham Hotspur have rejected an initial bid of around £38m from Nottingham Forest for young midfielder Lucas Bergvall, reports the Telegraph.

Bergvall is keen to leave Spurs this summer in a bid to gain regular game time having struggled for minutes last season.

The former Djurgarden man was part of the Sweden squad that crashed out of the round-of-32 at the 2026 World Cup.

The midfielder was restricted to just 11 league starts for the north London side, though injuries impacted his time on the pitch in a topsy turvy campaign for the capital outfit.

Bergvall’s top-flight action is expected to be limited further in the coming campaign following Spurs’ big money signings of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali from West Ham and Newcastle, respectively, combined with the lack of European action.

Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi is keen to retain Bergvall’s services, but the 20-year-old is looking to secure a summer departure in order to play regularly.

Forest weighing up options following Anderson exit

However, Forest’s opening gambit has been rebuffed by Spurs, who would be willing to sell for closer to £50m.

It remains to be seen whether the Tricky Trees will offer close to Spurs’ valuation as they look to bring in a replacement for Elliot Anderson.

Anderson secured his £116m move to Manchester City earlier this month following a standout campaign for the Midlands outfit.

Bergvall, meanwhile, isn’t the only player to have been linked with a City Ground switch as Forest look to strengthen in the middle of the park.

Jones on Forest's radar

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is another potential target for Forest, though Reds boss Andoni Iraola revealed earlier this week that he is hoping to retain the England international’s services.

Jones has also been courted by Serie A champions Inter Milan after the Italian side failed in their efforts to sign the Liverpool man back in January.

In a boost to Forest, midfielder Ibrahim Sangare is close to signing a new deal at the club, while left-back Neco Williams, who was tentatively touted with a switch to Spurs, is also expected to extend his stay in Nottingham.
