England fans may have enjoyed a relatively sleep-friendly World Cup 2026 schedule during the early stages, but the knockout rounds have changed that quickly.

LiveScore’s Fan Sleep Loss Matrix has been refreshed ahead of the quarter-finals, with England now the biggest movers in the table.

The latest update includes every group-stage fixture, the Round of 32, Round of 16 and confirmed quarter-final kick-off times, while keeping all 48 teams in the ranking.

England sat 36th after the Round of 32, with just 2.5 hours of potential sleep opportunity lost. However, their Round of 16 clash with Mexico and upcoming quarter-final against Norway have added another 4.25 hours to the total.

That takes England to 6.75 hours of potential sleep opportunity lost overall, moving them up 23 places to 13th in the updated LiveScore World Cup 2026 Sleep Loss Table.

England fans face biggest sleep loss climb of World Cup knockout rounds

England’s group-stage fixtures were manageable compared with some of the worst-hit nations, with the Three Lions losing 2.5 hours of potential sleep opportunity across their first three matches.

Their Round of 32 fixture against DR Congo added no further sleep loss under the model, as the viewing window fell outside the standard 11pm-7am sleep window.

But the Round of 16 changed the picture.

England’s match against Mexico added 2.75 hours of sleep opportunity lost, with the viewing window landing entirely inside the usual sleep window, with the hour delay in kickoff not helping!

Their quarter-final against Norway adds another 1.5 hours, taking England’s tournament total to 6.75 hours.

While England are among the biggest movers, Algeria remain the most sleep-impacted fans overall.

Algeria sit top of the matrix with 11 hours of potential sleep opportunity lost, despite not adding further disruption in the latest update.

Morocco remain second on 10.75 hours, with their quarter-final against France adding another 30 minutes to their total.

Norway and France are now joint on 10 hours after difficult knockout schedules, while Croatia complete the top five.

Norway and France climb into the top four

England may be one of the biggest overall movers, but Norway and France have made the biggest impact near the top of the ranking.

Norway have climbed from 10th to third after adding 1.5 hours from their Round of 16 match against Brazil and 2.5 hours from their quarter-final against England.

France have moved from 12th to fourth, with their Round of 16 match against Paraguay and quarter-final against Morocco adding four hours in total.

Both nations now sit on 10 hours of potential sleep opportunity lost.

How LiveScore calculated World Cup sleep loss

The LiveScore World Cup 2026 Fan Sleep Loss Matrix now covers the group stage, Round of 32, Round of 16 and quarter-finals.

The model uses a standard 11pm-7am sleep window and measures each fixture as a 2hr 45min viewing window. This covers 15 minutes before kick-off, a two-hour match slot and 30 minutes post-match.

Any overlap between that viewing window and the team’s local 11pm-7am sleep window is counted as potential sleep opportunity lost.

For countries with multiple time zones, an average of their main civil time zones is used. “Sleep opportunity lost” means potential disruption rather than confirmed lost sleep.

The updated matrix keeps all 48 group-stage teams in the ranking. Teams who reached the later knockout rounds have additional fixtures added, while eliminated teams retain their existing totals.
