Probably unsurprisingly given they’ve won the World Cup a record five times, Brazil dominate the list of players with the most World Cup victories – and 15 of those players were part of the squads which went back-to-back in 1958 and 1962.
Among them is the only man to win the World Cup three times, arguably the finest player ever to grace the tournament: Pele, who starred and scored in his country’s victories over Sweden and Italy in the 1958 and 1970 finals respectively – and was retrospectively awarded a winner’s medal by FIFA for 1962 after missing most of that edition through injury.
The two other Brazilians with multiple World Cup successes to their name, Ronaldo and victorious 2002 captain Cafu, are the two most recent players to lift the trophy more than once.
Italy were the first side to retain the World Cup, making legendary quartet Giovanni Ferrari, Guido Masetti, Giuseppe Meazza and Eraldo Monzeglio the first players to triumph twice.
And Daniel Passarella is the sole Argentine member of this exclusive club, captaining his nation to glory in 1978 and featuring in the winning squad eight years later.
Which Players Could Win Their Second World Cup This Summer?
A number of players could feasibly join the list of multiple World Cup winners at this summer’s tournament, which Argentina go into as holders.
The likes of Lionel Messi, Julian Alvarez and Enzo Fernandez will all be hoping to help their country hold onto the trophy they won in Qatar four years ago.
And the same goes for members of France’s triumphant 2018 squad such as Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and N’Golo Kante.
