Scotland return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998, and there’s every chance Scott McTominay will be their main man in North America – as he has been so regularly for club and country in recent years.

A player transformed since swapping Manchester United for Napoli two years ago, McTominay is currently 5/2 with LiveScore Bet to be Scotland’s top goalscorer at the World Cup 2026*.

The 29-year-old’s last international goal – a stunning overhead kick which sent the Scots on their way to a 4-2 qualification-clinching win over Denmark in November – highlighted the quality he’s more than capable of producing in and around the box.

With 14 international goals to his name so far, McTominay is the second-highest scorer in Steve Clarke’s squad – behind only John McGinn (20 goals). The midfielder has thrived in a more advanced role and there’s no reason why that shouldn’t continue this summer.

Heading into the tournament off the back of a 14-goal season for Napoli – netting three times in his last seven appearances of the campaign – McTominay will be integral to Scotland’s goal threat as they look to make it out of the World Cup group stage for the first time.

An opening match against Haiti – 40 places below Scotland in the FIFA World Ranking – present, on paper at least, the ideal opportunity for Clarke’s side to put points on the board and for McTominay to open his account.

The subsequent meetings with 2022 World Cup semi-finalists Morocco and five-time winners Brazil are bound to present tougher tests, but McTominay has proved himself a player for the big moments. He’ll no doubt back himself to fill his boots as he graces football’s most prestigious stage.
