Sweden made it through two play-off matches to reach the World Cup after missing out four years ago, but that playoff berth was only secured thanks to their Nations League performances after a dismal qualifying campaign.
The Swedes won none of their six games and finished bottom of their group, although Graham Potter’s appointment appeared to inspire them to defeat Ukraine and Poland to seal a 13th appearance at the finals.
Tunisia dominated their qualifying group, finishing 13 points clear of Namibia in second, and the Eagles of Carthage will be hoping to make it out of the group stage for the first time at the World Cup.
Team news
Potter has a full-strength squad to choose from and could unleash both Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak in a front two.
Tunisia manager Sabri Lamouchi also has no injury doubts ahead of the game, with his squad coming through friendlies against Belgium and Austria unscathed.
He could be set to do some tinkering, however, as Tunisia conceded six goals in those two games, failing to score in either of them.

The stats
This will be the very first meeting between Sweden and Tunisia.
Tunisia have played European opposition 12 times at the World Cup dating back to 1978, winning only one of those matches — against France in Qatar four years ago.
Sweden have faced African opposition at the World Cup on just three occasions. A 2-2 draw against Cameroon opened up their 1994 campaign, while they defeated Nigeria in the group stage eight years later, before suffering an extra-time loss to Senegal in the last-16.
Gyokeres scored a hat-trick in the playoff semi-final, before scoring a later winner against Poland a few days later to secure Sweden a place in North America.
The Arsenal striker has scored 20 goals across 33 appearances for Sweden since making his debut in 2019.
Tunisia have won only one of their last seven international matches, beating Haiti 1-0 in March earlier this year.

Prediction
Sweden will know that a win is imperative should they look to reach the knockout stages, especially with matches against the Netherlands and Japan to follow.
Graham Potter's men will be looking to take full advantage of Tunisia’s dire record against European opponents at this stage and begin their campaign by sealing three points.
Gyokeres will be Sweden’s main attacking threat and given his recent form for his country – five goals in his last three matches – he will thrive against a poor Tunisian defence.
Expect Sweden to win comfortably in Monterrey with Gyokeres opening his major tournament account in the process.
Score prediction: Sweden 2–0 Tunisia
