Tottenham Injury Blow: Mohammed Kudus Suffers Setback, Season in Doubt as Relegation Battle Intensifies

Tottenham have confirmed that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his return from a quad injury.
The Ghana international hasn’t played since being forced off in the first half of Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland in January.
Spurs had hoped that Kudus would return in time for the run-in, starting with Sunday’s trip to Sunderland.
However, the former West Ham man is unlikely to play again this season, while his World Cup participation is also now in doubt.
Spurs confirm Kudus blow
“We can confirm that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his return from injury,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The Ghana international forward suffered a significant quad injury during our Premier League fixture against Sunderland in January.
“He had returned to team training during the past week, however will now require further specialist review and, potentially, surgery.
“We will provide any relevant further updates in due course.”
Kudus’ prolonged absence is a blow for the capital outfit, who are just one point above the relegation zone heading into the weekend’s trip to the Stadium of Light owing to a 13-game winless run.
Spurs' ongoing injury woes
Newly-appointed head coach Roberto De Zerbi already has a lengthy list of absentees for the game against the Black Cats.
Guglielmo Vicario underwent surgery during the international break owing to a hernia issue, while Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies and James Maddison are long-term absentees, though the latter is edging closer to a return.
Pape Sarr, Mathys Tel and Rodrigo Bentancur are also doubts, the Uruguayan having sustained a hamstring problem in the 3-2 loss to Bournemouth earlier in the year.
