  • United are aiming to win three league games in a row for the first time since August 2024

  • Brighton did the double over the Red Devils last season

  • Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals

There is a sense of optimism surrounding Manchester United following Sunday's 2-1 victory over Liverpool with the Red Devils now preparing to host Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Ruben Amorim's side stunned Anfield to take all three points and finally secure back-to-back league wins for the first time under Ruben Amorim, who will now be eager to see his side kick on and build some consistency.

Standing in United's way is a Brighton side who are just one place and a point behind the 20-time English champions and are looking for a third win in a row against the Red Devils.

Team news

United remain without the services of Lisandro Martinez, who is pencilled in for a return towards the end of November, but they otherwise have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Benjamin Sesko came off the bench in the win at Anfield and he will be pushing for a recall, although Amorim may decide to stick with the same starting XI who did the business against the Reds.

Jack Hinshelwood, Solly March and Adam Webster remain sidelined for Brighton, who are also sweating over the availability of Kaoru Mitoma, Joel Veltman, Brajan Gruda and Diego Gomez.

The stats

United won back-to-back league games for the first time under Amorim when beating Liverpool 2-1, which was also the first time the Red Devils had triumphed at Anfield since 2016.

After losing 1-0 at home to Arsenal on the opening weekend, United have won their next three matches at Old Trafford, beating Burnley (3-2), Chelsea (2-1) and Sunderland (2-0).

Brighton beat Newcastle 2-1 at the Amex on Saturday to extend their unbeaten streak to five games in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and conceding five times during this period.

The Seagulls did the double over United last season, winning 2-1 on the south coast and 3-1 in Manchester, while Brighton have won six of the last seven meetings in the Premier League.

Prediction

Although they have won two games in a row, it is still too early to be fully confident in backing United, especially as they host a Brighton side who have had the beating of them over the past few seasons.

But the Seagulls have struggled for consistency on their travels, winning just one of their four away assignments in the league and failing to beat rock-bottom Wolves during that period, so the better play for Saturday's contest is to back goals.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in six of United's last seven fixtures and in seven of Brighton's last eight matches, while that same bet has been a winning one in three of the last four meetings between these two clubs.

With the Red Devils keeping just one clean sheet in all competitions and the Seagulls yet to record a shutout in the league, this looks set to be another entertaining affair at Old Trafford.
