Cristian Romero to Leave Tottenham as Fabrizio Romano Reveals Summer Transfer Plan

Cristian Romero will “100% leave” Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Romero was instrumental as Argentina reached the 2026 World Cup final, ultimately falling to a 1-0 defeat to Spain after Ferran Torres’ extra-time strike at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
And the centre-back’s performances for his national team didn’t go unnoticed with a host of teams keeping tabs on the 28-year-old.
European giants keen on Romero
Spurs are understandably keen to retain their captain’s services but are aware of top tier interest in the defender.
Italian champions Inter Milan, who have also been credited with an interest in Spurs teammate Djed Spence, are among those to be monitoring Romero.
Spanish giants Barcelona have also been keeping tabs on Romero, though Romano has revealed that the La Liga champions will only make a move for the former Atalanta man should they make centre-back sales.
Romero was named Spurs skipper last summer having put pen to paper on a new deal in north London.
However, Spurs endured a disappointing season as they were locked in a relegation dogfight.
Roberto De Zerbi, who took over the Spurs reins in April, guided the club to safety on the final day of the campaign as they claimed a 1-0 home win over Everton.

And the Italian has been backed heavily in the summer market so far, with the club sanctioning the £52m signing of Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke last month.
The Netherlands international shone at the 2026 World Cup despite the Oranje’s round-of-32 exit at the hands of Morocco.
The 26-year-old is widely considered to be Romero’s replacement in the capital, with Spurs willing to allow Romero to leave.
Romero won’t be the first centre-back to depart the club in the off-season.
Spurs have already cashed in on Luka Vuskovic, the Croat sold to Brighton & Hove Albion, while Radu Dragusin has returned to Serie A with Fiorentina on loan with an obligation to buy if specific performance-based criteria are met.
