Chelsea Agree £117m Morgan Rogers Transfer as Arsenal Miss Out on Aston Villa Star

Chelsea have stolen a march on Arsenal in the race to sign Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers having agreed a £117m move for the England international, reports the Athletic.

Rogers had been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners as the Premier League champions sought to strengthen their frontline following last season’s title success.

However, Arsenal now look set to miss out on the former Middlesbrough man after the 23-year-old agreed personal terms on a six year contract through to 2032, with the option for a further year.

The same report suggests that newly appointed head coach Xabi Alonso played an instrumental role in convincing Rogers to swap Villa Park for Stamford Bridge.

Rogers is currently with the England squad at the 2026 World Cup, and started the 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina.

It was the Villa star who provided the assist for Anthony Gordon’s opener on his first start in North America.

He’s expected to remain with the Three Lions camp until after the Bronze match meeting with France on Saturday night.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Rogers in recent months, though a January move to west London proved impossible after he put pen to paper on a new contract back in November.

Rogers now looks set to be the club’s third summer signing following the addition of Marcos Palestra from Atalanta and the pre-agreed deal to land Geovany Quenda from Portuguese side Sporting CP.

Alonso’s side have raised in excess of £100m in player sales this summer with Andrey Santos, Marc Cucurella and Tyrique George all departing for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Everton, respectively.
