Italian head coach Alessio Dionisi's Watford have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Championship.

Two teams struggling to hit top gear in this fledgling stage of the Championship season go head-to-head on Tuesday evening when Watford welcome Preston North End to Vicarage Road.

The Hornets started their season on the right foot with a 2-1 home win over Southampton, but have only managed to pick up two points in their following four Championship games, although they did draw with both Wrexham and West Ham.

In contrast, Preston started the campaign with a four-game losing streak in the league, but managed to claim a first win and the bragging rights with a 2-1 victory at home to Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.

The Lilywhites have struggled on their travels this season and Tuesday's trip to Vicarage Road might well prove fruitless for Paul Heckingbottom's side.

Team news

Watford look set to be without midfielder Edoardo Bove after he suffered an injury in the 1-0 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion last time out.

Bove has joined an injury list for the Hornets that also includes Jeremy Ngakia, Marc Bola, Kwado Baah and Jack Grieves, while defender Omar Haktab Traore and midfielder Branimir Mlacic will have to prove their fitness ahead of Tuesday's encounter.

As for North End, skipper Ali McCann and Brad Potts are sidelined, while Andrew Hughes faces a race against time to be ready for the trip to Hertfordshire.

The stats

Preston have lost both of their two away games in the Championship so far this season, while Watford are unbeaten at home in the Championship this term (1W, 1D).

Preston have managed just one win in their last nine visits to Vicarage Road (1W, 5D, 3L) and the Lilywhites have recorded just two wins in their last 12 away games in the Championship.

Prediction

Given Preston's struggles on the road and their poor record when it comes to trips to Vicarage Road over the years, Watford are fancied to come out on top in Tuesday's contest.

Looking back at the Hornets' last three home games in all competitions, both sides have got on the scoresheet and it would be little surprise to see both teams find the back of the net in this one.

Watford have beaten Southampton and drawn with West Ham at home in the Championship already this term and the hosts should prove too strong for the Lilywhites here.
