Swansea City continued to make progress up the Championship table at the weekend with a hard fought 1-0 win over Bristol City at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Another win against Preston in midweek could see the Swans close in on a place in the top half of the standing.

The Lilywhites, however, have struggled in 2026. Indeed, North End have won just three of their 10 matches played across all competitions and have drifted away from play-off contention.

Team news

The home side continue to be without striker Adam Idah, with the former Celtic frontman currently struggling with a hamstring injury.

Elsewhere, Zeidane Inoussa will also be absent, but those are the only two players missing from Vitor Matos' squad.

The visitors are set to be missing Daniel Iversen, Robbie Brady and Brad Potts for the clash in south Wales on Tuesday evening.

Those are the only players missing from the North End squad, however, with manager Paul Heckingbottom having plenty of options available to him for the clash.

The stats

Last time these two clubs met, Preston emerged victorious, defeating the Swans 2-1 at Deepdale.

Since the start of the 2018/19 season, these two sides have met on 15 occasions. Swansea have won seven of those matches, with Preston securing five wins during the same period.

The visitors could make some history on Tuesday evening. Should Heckingbottom's men defeat Swansea, it would be the first time the club have sealed a league double over them since the 1933/34 season.

Swansea have won five of their 10 matches played so far in 2026, while Preston have claimed three wins since the beginning of the year.

Both teams have scored in five of Swansea's 10 fixtures this year so far, while only two of Preston's matches has seen both teams finding the back of the net.

Zan Vipotnik has been in wonderful form for the home side. He scored his 16th Championship goal of the season in the win against Bristol City at the weekend.

He is top of the scoring charts in the Championship this season, while Preston's top scorer is Lewis Dobbin with seven goals to his name.

Prediction

Swansea start this match as favourites and they will be keen to maintain their upwards trajectory of late.

Another couple of wins in the coming weeks could even see the Swans challenge for a play-off spot, something which looked almost impossible not too long ago.

For Preston, however, it looks as though they will continue to slide down the standings.

At one point, the Lancashire club were well on course for a top-six finish, but a poor start to 2026 could eventually cost them dearly.
