  • Oxford are out of the Championship relegation zone on goal difference

  • Sheffield United are rock bottom of the league after a horror start

  • Recommended bet: Draw and both teams to score

Oxford meet Sheffield United in the Championship at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday and will be looking to build on last week’s impressive 3-1 victory at Bristol City.

This has been a nightmare season to date for the Blades, who have reappointed Chris Wilder for a second time after losing their opening five league games under Ruben Selles.

Wilder, who was only sacked in June, was back in the Bramall Lane dugout last Saturday but couldn’t stop his Sheffield United team from losing 1-0 against Charlton, keeping the Blades stuck at the bottom of the table.

Team news

Oxford boss Gary Rowett may decide to keep the same eam that beat Bristol City last week though Cameron Branagan and Jack Currie will be assessed. Matt Phillips, Ciaron Brown and Ole Romeny are all unavailable due to injuries.

Sheffield United are still without summer signing Danny Ings due to a hamstring injury while midfielders Jamie Shackleton, Oliver Arblaster and Tom Davies are also sidelined.

The Stats

Oxford lost their opening three league matches in the Championship but are now unbeaten in the last three, drawing twice and winning one.

No team in the Championship has scored fewer goals than Sheffield United (one) or conceded more goals (13) this season.

Chris Wilder managed Oxford for five years from 2008 and won 44% of his 269 games in charge of the U’s.

This will be only the fifth league meeting between Oxford and Sheffield United in the 21st century with the Blades winning three of the four previous encounters.

Prediction

Oxford will head into this game full of confidence after a convincing win at Bristol City and they will hope to build on an impressive three-game unbeaten run.

Drawing with Coventry and Leicester, the U’s are yet to win at home in the Championship but will see an opportunity against bottom club Sheffield United.

It has been a woeful start to the campaign for the Blades, who could not find the net under Selles and conceded far too many goals, with a 5-0 defeat at Ipswich highlighting their fragility.

However, despite losing to Charlton, the Blades have had another week working with Wilder and will have been given the belief they can earn a positive result worthy of the undoubted quality they possess in the squad.

Back at Bramall Lane for a third spell following his June sacking, Wilder has proven his capabilities at this level time after time and Sheffield United fans will expect the team to haul themselves off the bottom in the coming weeks.

The Blades should finally put a point on the board but may have to settle for a draw against an Oxford team who have hit their stride.

Expect both teams to also find the net as four of the U’s last five Championship games have seen four or more goals.
