Nathan Jones has overseen back-to-back Championship wins to start the season

Charlton play host to Preston at the Valley on Saturday in what could already be an important match for both sides.

The Addicks have begun the Championship season superbly, defeating Derby before securing a stunning away win over London rivals West Ham.

Nathan Jones’ side were defeated at Tottenham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Preston have lost both of their league games so far while also suffering a 4-0 loss to Everton in the EFL Cup in midweek at Deepdale.

Team news

Timothy Ouma is a doubt for this game due to a knock picked up in the loss at Spurs in midweek. Aside from that, Jones has a full squad to choose from.

Tyreece Campbell, Karlan Grant and Sonny Carey should all come back into the starting XI having been rested against Spurs.

Paul Heckingbottom has no injury concerns and he could bring Alfie Devine and Callum Long back into the starting XI against Charlton.

Both players came off the bench against Everton, but Heckingbottom might make several changes.

The stats

The recent head-to-head between these two clubs favours Preston, who have won seven consecutive matches against Charlton dating back to October 2015.

Charlton’s last victory against Preston came during a League One clash in November 2011.

The home side have won their opening two league matches for the second time in three seasons.

Both teams have scored in all four of Charlton’s matches this season, while three of Preston’s four games have seen both teams finding the net.

Charlton won nine of their 23 home matches in the Championship last term, whereas Preston claimed just seven away wins across their 23 matches.

Tyreece Campbell has scored in all three matches that he has played in this season, netting against Derby and West Ham in the Championship, while scoring against Cheltenham in the EFL Cup.

Prediction

Jones delivered a 19th place finish in the Championship last season, which ensured another campaign in the second tier for Charlton.

After winning both of their opening league games, however, it appears as though he could be aiming slightly higher this season.

Another victory at the Valley over Preston will make it nine points from nine and further boost the confidence among the squad.

For Preston, snapping out of this dismal run of form is imperative should they wish to avoid falling into the relegation places.

Heckingbottom’s side have conceded nine goals across the last three games and this will give Charlton a major boost knowing how poor the opposition defence has been.

Expect a home win this weekend, with Campbell playing a decisive role for an Addicks side growing in confidence in the early weeks of the season in the Championship.

Score prediction: Charlton 3-1 Preston
