Alex Neil's Millwall are sitting top of the table after two wins in two games, both without conceding, but next face a stern Southampton test
  • Sheffield United (away at Cardiff) have had just three shots on target

  • Derby (home to Swansea) top the yellow card charts with eight

  • Preston have won each of their last seven fixtures against Charlton

Southampton and leaders Millwall, the two teams who lost out in last season's play-offs via very different circumstances, meet at St Mary's on Saturday in arguably the game of the weekend in the Championship.

US-backed big spenders Wrexham and Birmingham kick off the weekend with a dash of Hollywood glitz on Friday night while Lincoln, Preston, Stoke and Norwich all go in pursuit of their first points.

Wrexham vs Birmingham - Friday August 28 (8pm)

Birmingham have got Tuesday night's 6-1 drubbing by Brentford to get out of their system while Wrexham have had the week off. The Dragons can breathe more uncertainty into Chris Davies' future.

Prediction: Wrexham 2-1 Birmingham (13/2 with LiveScore Bet)

Derby vs Swansea - Saturday August 29 (12.30pm)

Swansea have won at a poor Stoke and drawn with a poor Sheffield United and still look like a side who are going to struggle for goals. Expect Derby pressure and a side who won six of their last seven games at Pride Park last term can deliver.

Prediction: Derby 1-0 Swansea (23/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Middlesbrough vs West Brom - Saturday August 29 (12.30pm)

West Brom have scored 11 goals in four games though have little recovery time from Wednesday's Carabao Cup loss at Newcastle. Back in the North East where Middlesbrough are two out of two so far they should fear the worst.

Prediction: Middlesbrough 2-1 West Brom (23/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Wolves vs Stoke - Saturday August 29 (12.30pm)

Wolves looked very good winning 3-1 at Preston last week and were able to rest players in the Carabao Cup. Stoke, in contrast, were going the distance against Hull on Tuesday night after being brave but second best at Southampton on Saturday. This is a tough run for the Potters.

Prediction: Wolves 3-0 Stoke City (7/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Blackburn vs QPR - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

Both teams have scored in all four Rovers' games which suggests this could be fun. Do not be fooled by QPR's 0-0 draw with Bolton — on any other day they would have taken several of their 18 chances and this could be that day.

Prediction: Blackburn 2-2 QPR (9/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Bolton vs Lincoln - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

Bolton did not muster a single shot on target at QPR at the weekend but should be more front-footed against Lincoln. The Imps have played two and lost two though their 4-1 win at Blackpool in the Carabao Cup should lift spirits.

Prediction: Bolton 1-1 Lincoln (17/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Bristol City vs Portsmouth - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

All three Pompey games have ended in 3-1 scorelines and it is hard to see the team with the second worst defensive away record in last season's division keeping a blank. City, though, are yet to win though playing Millwall with 10 men for an hour was never going to work.

Prediction: Bristol City 2-1 Portsmouth (6/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Cardiff vs Sheffield United - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

The Blades have played two and drawn both, 0-0 on each occasion. They have mustered only three shots on target, a fact that Cardiff need to punish. The Bluebirds have scored (and conceded) in all four outings.

Prediction: Cardiff City 2-1 Sheffield United (13/2 with LiveScore Bet)

Charlton vs Preston - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

Two teams spanked by Premier League sides in the Carabao Cup clash at The Valley. The much-changed Addicks were thumped 5-1 at Spurs though there looks to be a malaise at North End, whose 4-0 home loss to Everton was just the latest in a string of poor results.

Prediction: Charlton 1-0 Preston (24/5 with LiveScore Bet)

Norwich vs Burnley - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

This is a tough run at the start of term for Norwich who must follow losses against West Brom and Millwall by stopping Burnley. That said, the relegated Clarets have yet to win in four and were humbled by Bradford on Wednesday so make little appeal.

Prediction: Norwich 1-1 Burnley (19/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Southampton vs Millwall - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

This is a big showdown between two serious heavyweights. The Lions have won two and have yet to concede but will be tested by a Saints' side who have played well for their three points and look every inch as good as last season.

Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Millwall (24/5 with LiveScore Bet)

Watford vs West Ham - Saturday August 29 (3pm)

Watford's stunning 5-1 collapse at home to Peterborough in the EFL Cup on Tuesday - (the same night that West Ham were winning 4-1 at Southampton) - should spark alarm bells. All four Hammers' games have landed for over 2.5 goals - so should this.

Prediction: Watford 2-4 West Ham (20/1 with LiveScore Bet)
