  • Blackburn have successfully avoided relegation from the Championship

  • Leicester were confirmed as down last week

  • Recommended bet: Blackburn to win

A few weeks ago this final-day Championship clash looked like it could be pivotal in terms of who would be dropping down to the third tier, but Blackburn's late-season revival, coupled with Leicester's dismal recent form, means there is no jeopardy heading into Saturday's Ewood Park clash.

Rovers are safe up in 20th place, five points clear of the drop zone, while City, in contrast, are preparing for League One.

Team news

With little now riding in Saturday's game, both managers could opt to make changes to offer fringe players and youngsters alike the chance to impress.

Hayden Carter (hamstring), Axel Henriksson (muscle), Andri Gudjohnsen (thigh), Sondre Tronstad (knee), Augustus Kargbo (calf) and Lewis Miller (ankle) are all still in the treatment room for Blackburn.

Leicester must make do without Memeh Caleb Okoli (muscle) and Victor Kristiansen (knee) for their final fixture of the season.

The stats

Leicester's record of 11 wins from 45 matches means they were relegated with two games to spare in the Championship.

Blackburn have seen off their rivals for the drop, with last week's win at Sheff Utd confirming their place in the division for another year.

Rovers have lost just one of their last eight league games.

Leicester have failed to win any of their last eight Championship matches.

The earlier fixture between the sides finished 2-0 to Rovers at the King Power Stadium in November.

Prediction

Rovers have looked much more stable since the appointment of Michael O'Neill with the Northern Ireland coach overseeing improvement at Ewood Park and ultimately guiding his side to safety.

Draws with West Brom, Stoke, champions Coventry and last week's 3-1 success at Sheff Utd mean O'Neill's side can go into the final day not fearing a negative result will tip them into the third tier, as had been looking likely just a month or so ago.

The hosts should be able to play with freedom and secure a final-day win over opponents who have stumbled into the abyss of League One after a disastrous campaign.

Points deductions and some awful results and performances have done for the Foxes this term and a club that a decade ago was celebrating the sensational achievement of winning the Premier League must face up to the harsh reality of relegation once again.

They have shown little stomach for the fight as things have gone against them in 2026 and Leicester look set to be on the end of another woeful defeat in East Lancashire on the final day.
