Understanding the Championship League Table

While the Championship standings do not tell the full story, they do offer valuable insights into which team has a better chance of winning a particular match.

The Championship league table features 24 teams. The top two teams secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, while the teams finishing in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place enter the play-offs, where only one of the four will earn promotion. At the bottom of the table, the last three teams will be relegated to League One.

The main league table provides essential information. For each team, you can see the number of matches played, the goal difference, and the total number of points. Below this, further statistics reveal the number of wins, draws, and losses, as well as the number of goals for and goals against. This data can help you determine whether a team employs a more attacking or defensive style of play.

To provide even more detail, the Championship table includes three additional tabs:

  • Home: This tab ranks teams based only on their home game results. You will see the points, wins, losses, and goal difference achieved at home, giving a clear picture of which teams perform best in their own stadium. For example, a team might be 5th in the overall table but 10th in the home table, indicating stronger performances in away matches.

  • Away: This section shows the same statistics but considers only away matches. Its purpose is to highlight which Championship teams excel when playing on the road.

  • Form: The form tab is particularly interesting, as its rankings can be entirely different from the main table. This table is based exclusively on the number of points each team has earned in their last five consecutive games.

The purpose of the Championship table is to give you a complete overview of the entire league. If you wish to learn more about a specific team's statistics, simply click on its name in the table. A new page will open, showing you the team's top performers (in goals, assists, and yellow cards), recent match results, and more.
