Newcastle Transfer News: Sporting CP Star Luis Suarez Targeted After 27-Goal Season in Portugal

Newcastle are reportedly considering a summer move for Sporting CP goal machine Luis Suarez, according to Portuguese outlet Record.

The Magpies are enduring a disappointing season and are expected to finish the campaign in the bottom half of the table.

Without European football, a number of star players are tipped to leave St. James’ Park this summer, with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali both linked with high-profile departures.

Newcastle set for frontline revamp

Strikers Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa are among those who may yet leave Newcastle in the off-season, despite only arriving from VfB Stuttgart and Brentford, respectively, last summer.

Woltemade, who was wanted by Bayern Munich before securing his move to Newcastle, has been tipped to secure a return to Germany.

Wissa, meanwhile, has struggled to transfer his flying Brentford form to Newcastle, the DR Congo international having struck just three times in all competitions under Eddie Howe.

Both Woltemade and Wissa have dropped behind William Osula in the striker pecking order under Howe, the Dane having impressed on Tyneside of late.

And Newcastle are believed to be eyeing up a move for Suarez in a bid to strengthen their frontline.

The Colombia international moved to the Portuguese capital last summer as a replacement for Viktor Gyokeres, who secured a switch to Arsenal last year.

Suarez has thrived in Lisbon, and leads the Liga Portugal scoring leaderboard with 27 league goals to his name.

The 28-year-old’s performances for Sporting have not gone unnoticed either as Newcastle consider their forward options.

However, Suarez’s current release clause for Sporting is €80m, and the 2024-25 champions are unlikely to entertain offers below that figure.
