Amid their search for reinforcements over the summer, Tottenham have sent scouts to Juventus to watch defender Pierre Kalulu, reports TuttoSport.

De Zerbi might well have saved Spurs from Premier League relegation. He's managed the north London side in five matches, returning two wins and two draws.

They are separated from West Ham in the final relegation place by two points, and their vastly superior goal difference means a draw against Chelsea in the penultimate game of the season could keep them up, while a win definitely would.

It is no surprise that De Zerbi is seeking reinforcements to ensure his Tottenham squad are not in the mire again, and having conceded 55 goals this season, the defence might be the place to start.

TuttoSport reports Spurs sent scouts to watch Juventus defender Kalulu in action as they lost to Fiorentina over the weekend.

It perhaps didn't show the defender in the best light, as after he'd played 10 Serie A games in a row without losing, with clean sheets kept in seven of those, Fiorentina put two past Juve, with the giants unable to respond.

In any case, Kalulu and his Juve team-mate Nicolo Fagioli are said to be 'highly sought-after' by De Zerbi's Tottenham. It is said to be more unlikely that the defender leaves than his team-mate.

Man Utd pushed back for Kalulu

Spurs are not the only English club interested in Kalulu - who has two goals and five assists in Serie A from defence this season - and Manchester United have also found how difficult it might be to land the Frenchman.

It's reported that they have sent emissaries a couple of times, in order to follow Kalulu, and 'positive relations have resulted in initial approaches.'

But so far, those approaches have been turned down by the Italian club.

There's no information on what those approaches included, but things seem to be stacking up against Spurs.

If United, who have finished third in the Premier League this season, can't land the Juve star, then a side who look likely just to scrape to survival in the lead have much less chance.

Further to that, Juventus have reportedly began discussions with Kalulu's representatives to hand him a new deal, which would run until 2030. That would include a salary increase, likely to keep the defender happy.
