The representatives of Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon have been in contact with Bayern Munich 'for months,' reports insider Florian Plettenberg.

Gordon is in perhaps the best season of his career given the context of his achievements in the Champions League. While he's had more productive seasons than his six goals and two assists in the Premier League this term, the winger has shot to notoriety in Europe.

Gordon bagged 10 goals and two assists in 12 Champions League games this season, including contributions against established European powerhouses Barcelona and Benfica, as well as four goals in one game against Qarabag.

It's little surprise that some huge clubs have eyes firmly fixed on Gordon, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich among those linked with the Newcastle star.

According to insider Plettenberg, Gordon's representatives have been in talks with Bayern 'for months' and contact is ongoing. The Bavarian club's boss, Vincent Kompany, has approved a move for the English attacker.

Plettenberg denies direct talks with an agent last week, and states that if Bayern can't get a move for Gordon over the line, they have plans B and C in place.

Those plans are there for if Gordon becomes too expensive. Reports elsewhere have suggested that Newcastle will open talks for the sale of their winger, but only if Bayern or any other side match their £75million valuation.

Bayern have only once exceeded that sum previously, when they signed Harry Kane from Tottenham in 2023.

But he's now on 139 goals and 33 assists in 143 games as a Bayern player, so the club would surely be happy to pay big bucks for Gordon should he have that sort of impact.

Gordon could well leave

Plettenberg's information tracks with a recent reveal from fellow insider Fabrizio Romano on the future of Gordon.

He said: “Anthony Gordon has really serious chances to leave Newcastle in the summer window.

“At the moment, Bayern are really interested in the player. Premier League clubs could also appear on [the] scene quite soon.

“It’s between Bayern and Premier League [clubs] at this stage. Anthony Gordon is attracting serious interest and could be one of the names to watch [this summer].

“[It] depends also on the price tag, Newcastle will decide. With Bayern, he’s part of a three-man shortlist for the winger position.”

Should Gordon make the move away from St James' Park, he could be one of a few Magpies to do so this summer. Amid an underwhelming campaign, there's interest in some of their biggest names, with Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento joining Gordon on the radar of big clubs.
