The second round of matches in the Scottish Premiership sees the top two — St Mirren and St Johnstone — clash on Saturday.

Then the Old Firm take centre stage in Sunday's televised games, with champions Celtic off to Kilmarnock and Rangers welcoming Hibernian to Ibrox.

Dundee vs Aberdeen - Saturday August 8 (3pm)

Dundee have to be massively encouraged by the manner of their 1-0 loss at Celtic, when they were far from overawed.

A home date with Aberdeen represents a far more winnable fixture, though the Dons have won five out of five this term in competitive outings, dramatically pipping Hearts 2-1 in their league opener on Sunday.

There is not much in the match odds but Steven Pressley's hosts can nick a tight one.

Prediction: Dundee 1-0 Aberdeen (13/2 with LiveScore Bet)

St Mirren vs St Johnstone - Saturday August 8 (3pm)

First plays second at St Mirren Park and there is a good chance one of these two could still be top come the end of the weekend.

St Mirren look best placed to do that with promoted St Johnstone uncomfortable in the back during last weekend's entertaining 4-3 win over Kilmarnock.

The Buddies only scored 11 goals at home last season but already look far sharper this term with 14 goals in five games.

Prediction: St Mirren 2-1 St Johnstone (6/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Kilmarnock vs Celtic - Sunday August 9 (1.30pm)

Celtic kick-off Sunday's games in the Scottish top flight with a trip to Kilmarnock, where they won twice last year.

Killie have conceded at least two goals in their last seven showdowns with Celtic so last week's 4-3 loss at St Johnstone has to be a cause for concern, though also out of character given they had kept four clean sheets in their four League Cup fixtures.

Put last week's horror show in Perth down as a blip — though Celtic should still have enough.

Prediction: Kilmarnock 0-2 Celtic (6/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Hearts vs Dundee Utd - Sunday August 9 (3pm)

Hearts flew into Lisbon to play Benfica on Thursday in a Europa League qualifier off the back of a disappointing 2-1 loss at Aberdeen, and fly back to Edinburgh to take on a buzzing Dundee United.

The Terrors were excellent in their season-opening 1-1 draw against Rangers and they will fancy they can get something at Tynecastle.

United have played five games this season and only conceded one goal.

Prediction: Hearts 1-1 Dundee Utd (21/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Motherwell vs Falkirk - Sunday August 9 (3pm)

Motherwell produced a statement 2-1 win at Hibernian last week to show there is life after Jens Berthel Askou.

Falkirk, meanwhile, followed up a failed League Cup qualifying campaign by losing 2-0 at home to St Mirren, a worrying loss against an opponent who struggled last term.

The Bairns had the measure of the Steelmen last term with three wins and a draw in their four meetings, and can hold tight at Fir Park.

Prediction: Motherwell 1-1 Falkirk (5/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Rangers vs Hibernian - Sunday August 9 (4pm)

Rangers are short enough at home to Hibernian given they are flying back in from Poland where they played against Jagiellonia in a Europa League tie on Thursday.

Hibs, also in European action this week, can play hard to beat and give the Gers plenty to mull over.

Rangers failed to win last weekend and could well do so again back at Ibrox.

Prediction: Rangers 2-2 Hibernian (9/1 with LiveScore Bet)
