Arsenal Women vs Real Madrid Women predictions: Visitors capable of holding their own

Arsenal have won just one of their first three games in this season's Champions League
Real have won two of their first three, drawing the other
Recommended bet: Real Madrid or draw double chance
Champions League holders Arsenal have not had the strongest start to the defence of their prestigious title and they could be vulnerable when they face Real Madrid in the fourth game of the league phase.
Madrid trail in Barcelona’s wake in La Liga Femenina, but they have defended well in other recent domestic outings and victories over Roma and Paris Saint-Germain in Europe suggest they should be confident they can earn something against the inconsistent Gunners.
Team news
Arsenal will go into battle without the services of Manuela Zinsberger, Katie Reid, Leah Williamson and Kim Little, all of whom are injured, while Victoria Pelova and Canadian star Olivia Smith will both be pushing for starts for the Gunners.
Merle Frohms, Antonia, Sandie Toletti and Signe Bruun will all be missing for Las Blancas.
The stats
Real Madrid have kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight league matches.
Las Blancas have scored at least twice in 11 of their 16 games this season.
Madrid have been defeated on just two occasions this term.
Arsenal have failed to score in just two of their 12 outings this season.
Four of the Gunners’ last six games have featured fewer than three goals.
Arsenal have failed to win three of their last four home matches.
Prediction
Their victory over Barcelona in last season’s Champions League final was one of Arsenal’s finest hours, but they have struggled to live up to that for much of the campaign.
The Gunners gained a creditable 1-1 draw with Women’s Super League champions Chelsea, but they would have fancied their chances of giving their London rivals a tougher race for honours this term, and they have to pick themselves up from a big disappointment in their last Champions League outing.
Having taken a two-goal lead against Frauen Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, they looked poised to gain a big confidence boost against one of the continent’s top teams, but they were beaten 3-2 for a second Champions League defeat following a 2-1 home defeat to Lyon, who sit at the head of affairs in France.
A goalless draw in Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham was another disappointment, and there looks a strong chance that Real Madrid may be difficult to break down on Wednesday.
The Spanish side lost 4-0 to Barcelona last weekend, but had defended well in their recent La Liga Femenina assignments and head to Boreham Wood having claimed seven points from their opening three matches.
