Cambridge and Salford clash at the Cledara Abbey Stadium in a fixture that could have a major impact on the League Two Playoff race.
Leaders Bromley are targeting a third successive victory when they host poor travellers Colchester.
Ailing Tranmere have lost 12 of their last 14 League Two fixtures ahead of their meeting with highflying Swindon.
League Two returns after its midweek flurry with another full 12-game fixture slate on Saturday, 21st March, which includes two early kick-offs in the 12:30 pm lunchtime slots.
This weekend’s highlights include Cambridge’s head-to-head with Playoff rivals Salford, leaders Bromley’s date with Colchester and in-form Oldham’s clash with Harrogate.
Below, we’ve listed predictions for all 12 League Two fixtures for the 21st of March, starting with that lunchtime double.
Cambridge United vs Salford (Saturday, 12:30 pm)
There is just a two-point difference between Cambridge (3rd) and Salford (5th) in the League Two playoff shakeup, and with both teams in good form, the highfliers could be difficult to separate at the Cledara Abbey Stadium. Cambridge haven’t lost at that venue in 14 matches, while Salford travel on the back of five wins in six. The spoils could be shared here.
Score prediction: Cambridge United 2-2 Salford
MK Dons vs Barnet (Saturday, 12:30 pm)
MK Dons eventually got the job done against Colchester (1-0) on Tuesday evening and the title chasers have now pocketed a superb 33 of the last 39 points on offer to them in League Two. Barnet, who have lost four times in their last seven outings, held the Dons (2-2) in November’s reverse meeting, however, their chances of securing a repeat result on Saturday feel wafer-thin.
Score prediction: MK Dons 3-1 Barnet
Accrington vs Chesterfield (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Accrington suffered a heavy 4-0 reverse at home to Notts County in midweek and they’ve now gone six games in League Two without tasting victory. Chesterfield continue to blow hot and cold, but they did turn over Notts County (3-2) in their last away assignment, and they could chase down something similar here.
Score prediction: Accrington 1-2 Chesterfield
Bromley vs Colchester (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Successive 1-0 wins over Bristol Rovers and Newport have put leaders Bromley firmly back on the title trail and they can complete a hattrick of back-to-back victories at Colchester’s expense. The visitors have lost four of their last six League Two fixtures on the road and their away day woes could continue at the Copperjax Community Stadium.
Score prediction: Bromley 1-0 Colchester
Fleetwood vs Crawley (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Fleetwood were on course to earn a point at Grimsby in midweek before conceding a 95th-minute decider, though a draw could be in the offing when they host Crawley. Like their hosts, Crawley tend to draw plenty of games and their 1-1 draw with Barnet on Tuesday was their fifth tie in six matches in League Two. A point a piece might suit both teams in this one.
Score prediction: Fleetwood 1-1 Crawley
Gillingham vs Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Gillingham’s recent slump continued in midweek when they were turned over at home by Swindon (0-2) and the Gills have now lost six times in their last eight outings in League Two. In contrast, Bristol Rovers are on the up and their 1-0 win over Shrewsbury on Tuesday was their fourth victory in six attempts. The momentum is with the Pirates here.
Score prediction: Gillingham 0-1 Bristol Rovers
Grimsby vs Barrow (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Barrow’s decision to sack manager Dino Maamria after just six games at the helm hasn’t paid dividends and they were well beaten at Salford (1-3) in midweek. Their chances of producing an upset at Grimsby on Saturday feel slim. The hosts are unbeaten in nine games in League Two on their own patch and they can see off the division’s bottom club.
Score prediction: Grimsby 2-0 Barrow
Notts County vs Cheltenham (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
A goal and assist from Conor Grant helped Notts County to an impressive 4-0 win at Accrington Stanley in midweek, though toppling draw specialists Cheltenham could be a trickier task. The visitors are unbeaten in eight, though six games during that stretch ended all square, and Cheltenham could set up to frustrate again on Saturday.
Score prediction: Notts County 1-1 Cheltenham
Oldham vs Harrogate (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Oldham’s 3-0 win at Playoff hopefuls Chesterfield on Tuesday evening was an eye-catcher and Micky Mellon’s improving outfit have claimed 20 of the last 24 points on offer in League Two. Harrogate, who beat ailing Tranmere by the same scoreline (3-0) in midweek are scrapping for their lives, but red-hot Oldham should be in the driving seat.
Score prediction: Oldham 2-1 Harrogate
Shrewsbury vs Crewe (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Shrewsbury’s fine February is firmly in the rearview mirror now, following a run of three defeats in four games, though they will hope to secure at least a point against Crewe. The visitors hit an 85th-minute equaliser through James Connolly to earn a draw at Cheltenham on St. Patrick’s Day, and having lost only once in six away matches, Alexandra could avoid defeat again.
Score prediction: Shrewsbury 1-1 Crewe
Tranmere vs Swindon (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Tranmere’s 3-0 loss at home to relegation rivals Harrogate on Tuesday was a proper shocker. Rovers were three goals down by half-time in that reverse and they are inching closer and closer to the drop zone. Visiting Swindon still have designs on securing a top-six finish and their midweek win at Gillingham (2-0) should set them up for another triumph on the road on Merseyside.
Score prediction: Tranmere 0-2 Swindon
Walsall vs Newport (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Walsall’s decision to part ways with coach Matt Sadler earlier this month raised eyebrows, though the Saddlers have claimed four points from two games since, earning interim boss Darren Byfield an extended stay. However, Saturday’s visitors Newport, have taken seven points from their last three matches on their travels and are fighting hard to secure their League Two status. Walsall might struggle to beat the improving Exiles.
Score prediction: Walsall 1-1 Newport
