Pete Wild takes charge of Tranmere for the first time when Rovers visit Wild’s previous club, Fleetwood.
The latest round of League Two fixtures features another Friday night entry, with Colchester and Crawley facing off to whet appetites for the weekend.
The other 11 games arrive on Saturday, starting with a couple of lunchtime appetisers before nine more matches follow at 3 pm for the main course, including Swindon’s clash with MK Dons.
Below, we’ve listed predictions for all 12 League Two fixtures on March 13th and 14th, starting with Friday’s contest at the JobServe Community Stadium.
Colchester vs Crawley (Friday, 7:45 pm)
Colchester survived a late scare to pick up three points at second-from-bottom Newport (2-1) last time out and they can be confident of success again when they host struggling Crawley on Friday evening. The visitors are winless in seven attempts in League Two and they’ve won only once on the road in the division since early September.
Score prediction: Colchester 2-0 Crawley
Harrogate vs Salford (Saturday, 12:30 pm)
Salford made it two wins from two with their narrow 1-0 triumph over Walsall in midweek and with their course steadied, they can strengthen their playoff push with a third successive win, this time at Harrogate. The division’s bottom club were thoroughly outclassed by MK Dons (1-4) last weekend and they might struggle to match Salford’s quality.
Score prediction: Harrogate 1-3 Salford
Notts Co vs Chesterfield (Saturday, 12:30 pm)
Notts County kept their slim title hopes alive with an epic comeback win at Walsall (2-1) a week ago, netting the game’s decisive goal through Jodi Jones in the 93rd minute. Buoyed by those dramatic efforts, Martin Paterson’s Magpies could have the edge on Chesterfield. The visitors have lost two of their last three matches and their slump might continue.
Score prediction: Notts Co 2-1 Chesterfield
Barnet vs Newport (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Barnet limped to defeat at Salford (0-2) last time out, though they enjoyed back-to-back 1-0 victories over Accrington and Chesterfield before that, and they could get back to winning ways against struggling Newport. County have failed to win ten of their last 11 away fixtures in League Two, losing eight times along the way and the odds looked stacked against the Exiles again here.
Score prediction: Barnet 1-0 Newport
Barrow vs Accrington (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Relegation fears are still high at Barrow and their 2-0 reverse at home to Bristol Rovers on Tuesday was their fourth defeat in five games. Accrington haven’t fared much better however, winning only once in their last six attempts, so their clash with Barrow is unlikely to be high on quality. Stanley scored a late goal to win December’s tight reverse fixture (2-1), though Saturday’s rematch could be even closer.
Score prediction: Barrow 1-1 Accrington
Bromley vs Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
A sequence of five draws from their last six games has threatened Barrow’s League Two title bid, and they were perhaps a little fortunate to escape with a point at Grimsby (1-1) last time out. In-form Bristol Rovers, who have pocketed ten of the last 12 points available, could be the latest opponent to prey on Barrow’s title-race nerves.
Score prediction: Bromley 1-1 Bristol Rovers
Cambridge Utd vs Gillingham (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Title contenders Cambridge left a win behind them at Accrington Stanley last weekend, after they conceded just one shot on target in a disappointing 1-1 draw. Manager Neil Harris will want his charges to show a more clinical edge against Gillingham. The Gills were battered by second-place MK Dons (1-5) last weekend and they could be swept aside by another of the division’s highfliers here.
Score prediction: Cambridge Utd 3-0 Gillingham
Crewe vs Walsall (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Crewe have been leaning heavily on their home form to power their playoff chase and they’ve won four of their last five League Two tests at the Mornflake Stadium. Walsall meanwhile, continue to slide and their 1-0 defeat at Salford on Tuesday was their sixth loss in eight matches. Walsall edged out Crewe (1-0) on Boxing Day, though the tables could turn in Saturday’s rematch.
Score prediction: Crewe 1-0 Walsall
Fleetwood vs Tranmere (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Pete Wild takes charge of Tranmere for the first time this weekend and as luck would have it, Rovers’ new boss will face the club that sacked him in January, Fleetwood. The Cod Army are unbeaten in seven and probably deserved to win in midweek when they were held by Cheltenham (2-2). Tranmere meanwhile, have lost five straight matches and unless Wild works miracles, they face another loss here.
Score prediction: Fleetwood 3-1Tranmere
Oldham vs Grimsby (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Oldham are enjoying a late-season burst of form and their fine 3-1 win at Tranmere last weekend was their fourth victory in their last five contests. This visiting Grimsby side are no pushovers however, and have lost just one of their last 14 League Two tussles. With both teams playing with confidence, a share of the spoils at Boundary Park could be the outcome to back.
Score prediction: Oldham 1-1 Grimsby
Shrewsbury vs Cheltenham (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Shrewsbury proved their mettle last weekend to win a five-goal thriller at Chesterfield, nicking the game’s deciding goal in the 92nd minute through defender Sam Stubbs. The Shrews (17th) have now won five of their last six games and have overtaken Cheltenham (18th) in the table. The Robins have drawn four away games on the trot however, and know how to frustrate, so they might be able to extract a point from this trip.
Score prediction: Shrewsbury 1-1 Cheltenham
Swindon vs MK Dons (Saturday, 3:00 pm)
Fifth meets second at The Nigel Eady County Ground when Swindon host MK Dons on Saturday, and with Town in less than fine fettle, it might make more sense to side with the visitors. MK Dons were at their classy best to beat Gillingham 5-1 last time out and that following a similarly emphatic 4-1 win over Harrogate just three days before. In contrast, Swindon have failed to win four of their last five and they could be outscored by the rampant-looking Dons.
Score prediction: Swindon 1-2 MK Dons
