MLB

Washington Nationals @ Cleveland Guardians at 1:10 p.m. EDT on MLB.TV.

Don't look now, but the 29-27 Nationals are two games above .500 during a season where they were expected to be one of the worst teams in the MLB. They bring their four-game win streak into Cleveland to take on the 32-25 Guardians, who are tied for the second-best record in the majors over their last ten games (7-3), which has given them a 3.5-game lead in the race for the AL Central. The pitcher duel will see the Nats' PJ Poulin facing Cleveland's Gavin Williams. We'll find out if Washington extends its winning streak to an MLB-leading five games.

One question that will be answered: As the best home run-hitting team in the league over the last 15 days (22), will the Nationals hit at least two balls out of the park this afternoon?

St. Louis Cardinals @ Milwaukee Brewers at 1:40 p.m. EDT on MLB.TV.

The 32-20 Brewers can complete a three-game sweep of the 29-24 Cardinals this afternoon, following a 6-0 win on Tuesday. It was a performance to forget for St. Louis’ Michael McGreevy, who gave up five earned runs on seven hits in just four innings. The Brew Crew may have control of the NL Central, but they need to continue stacking wins if they want to catch the 37-18 Atlanta Braves for the best record in the National League. St. Louis will be relying on pitcher Dustin May to snap its three-game losing streak, while Chad Patrick will be the starter for Milwaukee.

One question that will be answered: After being embarrassed offensively in their last two games, will the Cardinals score at least two runs?

Seattle Mariners @ Athletics at 3:05 p.m. EDT on MLB.TV.

Though both these teams have losing records, one of these squads will be in first place in the AL West when this three-game series concludes later today. It could be the 27-28 Athletics, who would return to .500 with a win. Then again, it might be the 27-29 Mariners, who would leapfrog the A's with a victory. Both teams are also closely watching the 25-29 Texas Rangers, who are only 1.5 games out of first place in the AL West. It'll be Logan Gilbert on the bump for Seattle and Jeffrey Springs for the Athletics as the A's try to avoid the sweep.

One question that will be answered: Will the Athletics be able to hold the Mariners to four runs or fewer after giving up 13 over their last two games?

Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres at 4:10 p.m. EDT on MLB.TV.

Thanks to a 4-3 win yesterday, the 28-27 Phillies are over .500 for the first time since April 7th! And though the 31-23 Padres have control of the National League's number-one Wild Card spot, Philadelphia is hot on their tail and probably has the Pads sweating now that they've lost three games in a row. The Phillies can complete the sweep this afternoon and send a message to the rest of the MLB that they're back to being a force. Ace Cristopher Sanchez, who has the third-best ERA in the Majors (1.62), gets the nod for Philly. Opposite of him, Walker Buehler will be starting for San Diego.

One question that will be answered: Will Sanchez record his fifth consecutive start without allowing an earned run?

Chicago Cubs @ Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:40 p.m. EDT on MLB.TV.

There seems to be no end in sight for the 29-26 Cubs after they lost their tenth game in a row yesterday to the 29-26 Pirates. Pittsburgh throttled Chicago for a 12-1 victory after the Cubbies' Jordan Wicks gave up nine hits and eight earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched. At the same time, Pirates first baseman Spencer Horwitz and outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez combined for two home runs and five RBIs in the win. Chicago is hoping that Jameson Taillon can give them a better performance than his last time out, when he allowed four earned runs. Simultaneously, Bubba Chandler will be starting for the Pirates.

One question that will be answered: Can Jameson Taillon hold Pittsburgh to two runs or fewer?

Minnesota Twins @ Chicago White Sox at 7:40 p.m. EDT on MLB.TV.

Though neither team is above .500, the 27-27 White Sox and the 27-28 Twins are in direct competition for control of the second Wild Card spot in the American League. The game between these two yesterday was a thriller. Twins shortstop Brooks Lee hit a three-run double in the top of the 11th inning that eventually propelled Minnesota to a 5-3 victory. Also, pitcher Joe Ryan had a solid evening, as he struck out nine batters while only allowing two earned runs. The Twins can overtake Chicago for control of the second Wild Card with a win today. Connor Prielipp gets the start for Minnesota, while David Sandlin will make his MLB debut for the White Sox.

One question that will be answered: How many innings and strikeouts will Sandlin record in his first game as a pro?

WNBA

Phoenix Mercury @ New York Liberty at 7:00 p.m. EDT on USA Network.

It's still early in the season, but it's fair to say that the 3-4 Liberty and the 2-5 Mercury have been two of the more disappointing teams in the WNBA thus far. Both groups come into tonight's contest looking to snap a three-game losing streak. This rough start is especially surprising to see from the Liberty, whom we picked to win the 2026 WNBA Finals before the season began. Either way, one of these squads will right the ship tonight. New York will have extra motivation because if they win and the 3-3 Chicago Sky lose, they'll move back into a playoff spot.

One question that will be answered: Will Sabrina Ionescu play even though she's listed as questionable with a back injury?

Atlanta Dream @ Minnesota Lynx at 9:00 p.m. EDT on USA Network.

After the Liberty face the Mercury, we'll get a potential playoff preview when the 4-1 Dream hit the road to take on the 4-2 Lynx. Though Lynx forward and five-time All-Star Napheesa Collier has not yet played this season as she recovers from ankle surgery, that hasn't stopped Minnesota from winning four of its last five games. The problem is that one of their two losses this year came at the hands of the Atlanta Dream, who have the league's best winning percentage (.800). We'll see if the Dream can keep the momentum going tonight at the Target Center.

One question that will be answered: Considering the Lynx are fourth in offense (88.7 points per game) and the Dream are second in defense (79.2 points per game allowed), will Minnesota score at least 85 points in this matchup?

NHL

Carolina Hurricanes @ Montreal Canadiens Game Four at 8:00 p.m. EDT on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max.

In our lone playoff game of the evening, the Hurricanes are hoping to improve to 3-1 in the Eastern Conference Finals with another road win over the Canadiens. The last time out, Carolina defeated Montreal in OT by a final score of 3-2. Forward Andrei Svenchnikov was the hero of the game after his wrist shot deflected off a Habs defender and into the back of Montreal's net for the victory. With that win, the Canes improved to 5-0 in overtime games during the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Canadiens have a chance to return the favor tonight before the series shifts back to Carolina for Game Five. Either Montreal will even things up, or the Hurricanes will return home with a chance to punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals on Friday.

One question that will be answered: After back-to-back overtime games decided by a score of 3-2, will these teams combine for five or fewer goals tonight?
