Hurricanes blank Canadiens for 3-1 series lead

The Carolina Hurricanes rode a three-goal first period to an eventual 4-0 victory to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Habs once again struggled offensively as they were held to just 18 shots on goal. That was the third consecutive game in which Montreal failed to record at least 20 shots on goal.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes find themselves just one game away from their third conference championship in franchise history. If they can take care of the Canadiens tomorrow, then they will face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Finals.

MLBPA submits first proposal to kick off CBA negotiations

The Major League Baseball Players' Association submitted its first formal proposal as collective bargaining agreement negotiations with the MLB began. According to ESPN, the proposed deal includes more local television revenue sharing, doubling minimum salaries, a "competitive-integrity tax" that mirrors the competitive balance tax for teams with high payrolls, and raising the base competitive balance tax threshold to nearly $300 million.

"Today, the MLBPA presented a comprehensive set of economic proposals designed to advance the rights and benefits of players at all levels," MLBPA interim executive director Bruce Meyer said in a statement. "Our goal is to preserve and improve baseball's market system, rewarding competition on and off the field."

The current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire on December 1st, 2026. If the MLB and the players' association do not reach a new agreement before then, it could lead to a work stoppage and the possibility of games being cancelled during the 2027 season.

Packers RB Jacob released from jail as domestic violence investigation remains ongoing

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was released from jail yesterday after he was arrested on five domestic violence charges on Tuesday. The Brown County District Attorney's office said that the investigation into Jacobs' actions "remains open and ongoing."

"After reviewing the available evidence in this case, the Brown County District Attorney's Office is not yet prepared to make a formal charging decision," said District Attorney David L. Lasee in a statement. "Our office has requested additional investigation, as there is reason to believe that additional evidence may exist that would impact whether criminal charges are appropriate, and what charges would be issued. Mr. Jacobs will be released from custody at this time, and a final charging decision will be made by our office at a later date."

Giants’ Dart reportedly addresses team after Trump introduction

According to sources that spoke to ESPN and the NFL Network, New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart addressed his teammates during a Wednesday meeting to discuss his decision to introduce U.S. President Donald Trump at a rally in New York last week. Beyond Dart, quarterback Jameis Winston and defensive linemen Brian Burns and Kayvon Thiodeaux also addressed the team.

The Atlanta Hawks announced on Wednesday that they are promoting general manager Onsi Saleh to president of basketball operations and giving him a long-term contract extension after he placed second for the NBA’s Basketball Executive of the Year award.
