Hurricanes even series on Seth Jarvis' OT winner

The Carolina Hurricanes evened up the Stanley Cup Finals 1-1 thanks to a game-winning goal in overtime by center Seth Jarvis. With a power play opportunity, Carolina's Seth Jarvis ripped a one-timer past Vegas Golden Knights goalie Carter Hart for the 4-3 victory. Now, the series shifts to Las Vegas for Game Three, which will take place on Saturday.

My take: That was clearly the most important goal of Seth Jarvis' career. Had Carolina lost that game, the Golden Knights would've probably gone on to sweep the series. This win keeps the Hurricanes’ hopes alive and restores confidence in the team.

MLB

Yankees' Aaron Judge diagnosed with rib stress fracture

New York Yankees superstar outfielder Aaron Judge has been diagnosed with a right rib stress fracture, but he is expected to return to the field this season, the team announced last night. The Yanks said that he will be re-evaluated in four to six weeks to determine how well he is healing and what the next steps are in his recovery process.

Judge, who missed New York's last three games due to discomfort, is tied for fifth in the Majors in home runs with 17 on the season. His .908 OPS this season ranks 14th in MLB.

My take: This is not ideal, but it could be worse. At least Judge is expected to return at SOME point this season. As long as it's before the playoffs, the Yankees should be able to weather the storm.

Phillies complete season sweep of Padres

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres yesterday, 6-4, to complete the regular-season sweep of the Pads, 6-0. Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler struck out eight batters, while outfielder Adolis Garcia finished the game with a hit, a home run, an RBI, and a run.

My take: The Phillies have the second-highest winning percentage in baseball since May 1st, which is why they're now in a tie with the Diamondbacks and Cardinals for the second wild card spot in the NL. With a flat-out sweep of the Padres, Philly greatly improved its shot at making the playoffs. Meanwhile, San Diego is bottoming out and has the worst record in baseball over its last 10 games (1-9).

Diamondbacks bounce back with walk-off win over Dodgers

The Arizona Diamondbacks managed to split their four-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a walk-off win last night. Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the D-backs over the Dodgers, 3-2, his league-leading third walk-off hit of the 2026 campaign.

My take: Arizona really needed that win, considering they were 2-7 over their last nine games up to that point. With an upcoming series against the stumbling Washington Nationals, the Diamondbacks are in an excellent position to cement control of one of the NL Wild Cards. In a highly competitive National League, this win was huge!

Packers, WR Christian Watson reportedly agree to four-year extension

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a four-year contract extension with wide receiver Christian Watson that is worth $110.5 million, according to sources who spoke to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal also includes a $31 million signing bonus.

My take: I'm biased as a Packers fan, but this will end up looking like a good deal. People will try to use past stats to justify contract extensions, but you sign players to extensions for what they're going to do, not what they've done. Watson will be a crucial part of Green Bay's offense for years to come.

WNBA

Lynx win sixth straight behind Olivia Miles' record-setting performance

The Minnesota Lynx defeated the Golden State Valkyries 87-84 for their sixth consecutive victory to improve to 8-2 on the season. First-year Lynx guard Olivia Miles set a WNBA rookie record with eight made shots from beyond the arc on her way to a 28-point outing.

My take: The Lynx already have the best record in the league without their MVP and team leader, Napheesa Collier. When she returns to the lineup, Minnesota will start to come into form and emerge as the team to beat in the WNBA.

Fever beat Dream as Clark and Reese renew their rivalry

The Indiana Fever beat the Atlanta Dream at home 83-71 in the first matchup of the season between longtime rivals Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Reese had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Clark recorded 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Indiana's Kelsey Mitchell led all players with 25 points.

My take: Whenever Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark take the court at the same time, it's must-see TV. Clark got the better of Reese this time around, but something tells me this is not the last time we will see these two face off this season.
