In what will surely be an interesting Sunday Night Football matchup, the 5-2 Seattle Seahawks are looking to win their first game coming off their bye week as they go on the road to face the 3-5 Washington Commanders. Seattle is hoping to extend its win streak to three games, while Washington is looking to snap its three-game losing streak.

The good news for the Commanders is that it sounds like second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels will be back in the lineup on Sunday night. Various injuries have forced him to miss three starts this season, including last week's 28-7 drubbing at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs.

"If all goes right, I would love to play," Daniels said during an October 29th press conference. “I was running, and it felt like a cramp. When stuff like that happens, you get checked out, and I had to sit a week.”

Injuries have played a role in the Commanders' struggles. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury also said that inconsistency has hurt Washington's ability to win.

“Just the inconsistency week-in, week-out, like moving the ball at times [and] just not scoring it. I think, last two weeks, we've been inside the 40 [on] like eight trips and got seven points, zero points, [or] something like that,” Kingsbury said on Thursday. “So to me, just consistently executing the routine plays isn't showing up, and that's a deal with coaching, a deal with executing, a deal with playing. We've all got to get on the same page and find a way to get past that because that's really keeping us from becoming what I think we can be as an offense.”

On the other side of the ball, Washington has experienced defensive struggles after giving up 97 points during this three-game losing streak. However, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn feels like there are some things the unit is doing well.

“I thought - arrow going up - we still got a lot of our story to write on defense of how we play. I thought the tackling and the tracking, I thought that was better, and that's a part of processing quickly,” Dan Quinn told reporters on October 29th. “Creating some takeaways, I thought that was a big piece for us stepping in the right direction. The third piece, if you want to play good defense, is limiting a lot of the explosive plays. The off-schedule plays, those are the hard ones… So I would say we took a level up.”

The Commanders will probably have a difficult time containing Seattle's exciting offense. The Seahawks rank eighth in passing yards per game, and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba leads the league in receiving yards with 819 on the season.

“I think we talk about it every week, it feels like now, (Jaxon) being a really good player and understanding his role,” said Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold on October 30th. “He's a great player… Jax does a really good job of understanding the plan every single week. His mindset going into every single game. I feel like he's so clear on what we're doing as an offense and what his role is as a receiver. I can't speak highly enough about that guy.”

Smith-Njigba is also benefiting from excellent quarterback play. Sam Darnold ranks in the top ten this season in passing yards per game, QBR, and passer rating.

“I think Sam is a great quarterback. I love playing with him, his leadership, and the role that he has on this team,” Jaxon Smith-Njigba told reporters. “The confidence I have in him is at the absolute highest. [I] can't get more confident in my quarterback going out there, doing his thing, and us being together, trying to win games.”

Though it seems like Jayden Daniels will start on Sunday night, there's also an outside chance that backup QB Marcus Mariota will be the starter. Either way, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald knows that his defense will have a tough test this weekend.

“They're running the same offense. They don't have to change offenses by the quarterbacks,” Macdonald explained on Wednesday. “I think both operate it really well. Both have really great arm talent. Both can extend plays. Both are really fast… The types of plays that we're going to be practicing against and preparing for really wouldn't change based on who's playing. You’ve got to be ready for both.”

Prediction for Seattle Seahawks (-3) @ Washington Commanders

Assuming Jayden Daniels does start, the Commanders' offense will have its hands full with a Seahawks defense that is tenth in total yards allowed per game and seventh in points allowed per game. At the same time, Washington's 26th-ranked pass defense will probably struggle against the best wide receiver in the NFL from a statistical standpoint.

Prediction: Seahawks 27 - 23 Commanders
