We end the second Sunday of the NFL season with a primetime matchup between the Colts and the Chiefs. These two teams had opposite experiences in Week One. Indianapolis was shellacked at home by the Baltimore Ravens. A day later, Kansas City put the league on notice with a massive win over the Denver Broncos. Either way, these teams have to turn the page on last week and gear up for Sunday Night Football action.

The Colts had no answer for the Ravens, who defeated Indianapolis 41-23. This was the 11th season-opening loss that Indy has suffered over the last 13 years.

"Obviously, it was not good enough from start to finish," Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said at the beginning of his postgame press conference. "We've got to coach better. We've got to play better in order to get better. We've got a long season ahead of us. We've got to clean up the mistakes. We had a lot of them. And then we go from there."

The Colts defense was so bad that it was offensive. Ravens running back Derrick Henry ran for 144 yards and three TDs. Meanwhile, quarterback Lamar Jackson accumulated 364 total yards, a rushing touchdown, and a passing TD.

"I know we've got to go back and look at it. But - obviously - we've got to be better. We've got to coach better. We've got to play better," Steichen reiterated. "Obviously they had a ton of yards. I think they had over 500 yards of offense, so we've got to be better there... It's not about just one group. It's about the team. Offense, we weren't good enough. Special teams' got to be better. So we've got a lot to clean up."

The Chiefs had a much better Week One experience, with a near-flawless game against their divisional rivals on Monday Night. After getting swept by the Broncos last season, KC hammered Denver for a 31-10 victory.

"Proud of our guys and the job that they did," head coach Andy Reid said after the game. "At the same time, we're coming out of this thing knowing we got a ton of room to improve. All the way around in all phases... All the way around good performance knowing that there's 16 games left. So, this is just the beginning, with it being the first game."

In his first start since tearing his ACL, quarterback Patrick Mahomes played quite well. Though he threw an interception, he also scored three total touchdowns while rushing for 23 yards and throwing for another 184.

"I feel like I was moving around fast. I think I was a little quick with my reads. I think there were some people that - if I would have just gotten to the second and third read - they were open, especially earlier in the game," Mahomes told reporters. "But I tried to force a few things early, and then I had a few overstrides, but I've got to get back to being balanced where I can make those throws, and when I overstride it goes a little bit lower. So, you can see that some throughout the game."

That game was also the Kansas City regular-season debut of new running back Kenneth Walker III, who was everything he was advertised to be. The reigning Super Bowl MVP recorded 191 scrimmage yards and two total touchdowns.

"He did a really nice job," Reid said of Walker. "And you never know, going in, how many times you're going to give him the ball. I mean, that's not a calculated thing... For him to play the way he did, I thought was spectacular."

Though the Colts got slapped around, the Chiefs are not taking this matchup lightly. Andy Reid has a lot of respect for Indy and Shane Steichen. After all, KC needed overtime to beat the Colts last season.

"We've got a short week here that we've got to prep for a real good football team," said Reid. "That football team is well-coached. Shane does a great job with them, and we'll see them again. I mean, they're a good football team, and they'll continue to do well, I'm sure."

On the other side, there's no lack of respect for the Chiefs. Normally, teams would focus on stopping Patrick Mahomes. But now that Kenneth Walker III plays for Kansas City, it presents a whole new set of challenges for opposing teams.

"It's the amount of runs that they called last night. I think it was 37 or 38, which is different from what they have been in the past. Certainly, there's reasons for that," Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo told reporters on Tuesday. "Certainly, Walker coming over. We saw him in Seattle last year. [He's a] really good instinctive runner, and you can see last night... We're going to have to do a great job wrapping up."

Similar to Kenneth Walker III, the Colts have a top-flight running back in Jonathan Taylor. If the Chiefs want to pull off the win, they're going to have to limit his production.

"He's really good. The one thing we've got to do is try to bottle him up when he gets to the edge," explained KC defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. "I mean, I saw a PFF sheet the other day on him going from zero to 25 miles an hour, whatever it is. He's really good... He's tough to catch. So, kind of trying to get him bottled up and not letting it hit a seam north and south would be really important."

Though the Colts are not in a spot they had hoped to be in, there are still many games left on the schedule. On top of that, they have a great opportunity to right the ship on a national stage and prove they are not to be trifled with.

“Week One was obviously a wake-up call,” Shane Steichen said. “We got a lot of football left, but we have a lot of things we need to get correct, and a lot of them are things we can correct.”

Prediction for Indianapolis Colts @ Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5)

Indy might correct some of the mistakes they made last week, but it won't be enough to take down the red-hot Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium. The Colts had no response to the Ravens' passing attack, and that eventually set up the ground game. With Patrick Mahomes and Kenneth Walker III manning the backfield for KC, expect Indianapolis to run into major issues again. Mahomes is not as dynamic a runner as Lamar Jackson, but he can still hurt you with his legs. Plus, we already saw what Kenneth Walker III can do to opposing defenses. The Chiefs will lean on the rushing attack, which will open up the passing game later. In all likelihood, Kansas City's main defensive focus will be stopping Jonathan Taylor. Once the Chiefs bottle up JT, they'll be able to pin their ears back and get after Daniel Jones. Kansas City will get out to an early two-score lead that Indianapolis will be chasing the entire evening.

Prediction: Chiefs 30 - 21 Colts
