We kick off Week Two with a potential Super Bowl matchup between the Bills and the Lions, who both came out of close games on Sunday with victories. Buffalo defeated the Houston Texans to mark the beginning of the Joe Brady era. Meanwhile, Detroit held on for an overtime win over the New Orleans Saints. Now, these squads have to put those victories behind them as they face off later tonight.

On Sunday, the Bills topped the Texans 36-31 for their first win of the 2026-27 campaign. Though the offense was sensational, pass rusher Greg Rousseau was the hero of the game, recovering his own strip-sack fumble of Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud to secure the victory for Buffalo.

"I felt like I was getting blocked too much before that," Rousseau said after the game. "I was just very decisive, I feel like, with the move I was going with. I went with the stab-lift, and I feel like it was there for a while. And the DBs got him to hold it for a split second. I had gotten close a couple of times in the third and fourth, and that time, he held it."

While Rousseau was the one who ended up making the play, he was quick to give credit to his teammates for making the strip-sack possible.

"It's not about me; it's about the defense," he continued. "I can't get a sack if the DBs aren't doing their job. If we're not doing our job, [and] the quarterback's holding the ball, he's going to find somebody. Somebody's going to get open. So, I mean, it's team football."

It was a fantastic debut for new Bills head coach Joe Brady. The former offensive coordinator helped his team put up 36 points on a Texans defense that hasn't allowed an opponent to score over 30 points in a single game since January of 2023.

"I'm just proud of the guys," Brady said after the win. "You saw a lot of the conviction, everything we kind of talk about. We didn't care how pretty. There's no such thing as an ugly win... So proud for those guys in the locker room."

Offensively, it was a masterful performance by quarterback Josh Allen. The former MVP threw for 334 passing yards, ran for 23 yards, and scored four total touchdowns to lead the Bills to their first win in Houston since November of 2006.

"Look, my message always to Josh is like, just trust the play call, and whoever is there, if he's open, take it," Brady explained. "Man, it was really cool to see him just put the team on his back."

The Lions' game was equally as dramatic as the Bills'. Detroit managed to eke out a 31-30 overtime win at home against the New Orleans Saints.

"Man, our guys showed up when we needed it most," head coach Dan Campbell said to open his postgame press conference. "In any given time, you're going to have to rely on the unit next to you, the man next to you. And when somebody goes under, you've got to pull them up, and that was really what happened today. We found a way to get the win, and now - with the win - we can clean up what needs to be cleaned up."

The matchup was decided on the final play of the game. After the Saints scored a touchdown with 1:34 to go in OT, they tried to win the game with a two-point conversion attempt. However, New Orleans quarterback Tyler Shough slightly overthrew his target, which led to his intended receiver failing to make the catch. As a result, the Lions won 31-30.

"It's week one. You just never know. You have a feeling, and you never know the way it's going to go," Campbell told reporters. "We hung in there and made the last play. We made the last play to win it. And that's the most important thing... We'll take that."

Similar to Josh Allen with the Bills, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs put the team on his back. The three-time Pro Bowler had 34 touches for 186 scrimmage yards and two rushing TDs. With that performance, he became just the sixth player in NFL history to score at least 50 touchdowns in his first 50 career games.

“Well, I thought it was a very promising Week One. Certainly, we know what Gibbs is, what he's capable of, and he's still not there yet. And I mean that in a good way," Dan Campbell said. "I'm telling you, we were this close to breaking three or four more of these, like breaking them wide open. I mean, a shoestring away, just a little longer block at the second level. We were close. We're going to get that cleaned up, and he's going to get better. Week One, yeah, I like where he's at. I'm glad he's here.”

Obviously, it wasn't a perfect performance. After all, the Saints forced overtime after trailing at one point 21-0. Now that the Lions are going against an MVP quarterback like Josh Allen, the secondary must be better after letting up a league-high 378 passing yards.

"Just a few things with attention to detail, communication, just common things that go wrong," Detroit cornerback Rock Ya-Sin told reporters on Monday. "Anytime you see guys running free, it's usually a communication thing or guys just not being on details as a collective, as a group. Thankfully, it's all things that we can clean up, and we know how to clean them up."

Perhaps the biggest factor working in the Bills' favor will be the home crowd. After all, this is the first NFL regular-season game being played in Buffalo's new stadium. Dan Campbell expects that will create some problems for Detroit but also a great atmosphere.

"First one out of the gate is always going to be a little bit [tough]. It can get on you, but we've practiced doing silent count," he explained during a Tuesday interview. "We practice the noise throughout camp at times. We know that'll be one of the biggest issues. Loud [and] opening stadium, but the environment ought to be electric. I mean, Buffalo Thursday night; it's going to be awesome."

Prediction for Detroit Lions @ Buffalo Bills (-5.5)

There are some major faults that we saw in Week One from both of these teams. Buffalo gave up 124 rushing yards, and the Lions have a much better ground attack than the Texans. At the same time, Detroit had issues defending the pass after they allowed Tyler Shough to throw for 410 yards and three TDs. This goes without saying, but Josh Allen is much better than Tyler Shough. I shudder to imagine how many yards he will throw for tonight. I believe Josh Allen will have a better game through the air than Jahmyr Gibbs has on the ground. Even if he doesn't carve up Detroit with his arm, Allen can still do plenty of damage with his legs, so it's really a pick-your-poison scenario for the Lions' defense. More importantly, this is the first regular-season game played at Highmark Stadium, which means the crowd will be in a frenzy. I just can't see Buffalo and Bills Mafia losing their first home game in their new stadium. For that reason, I have Buffalo winning but Detroit covering the spread.

Prediction: Bills 30 - 28 Lions
