Knicks win Finals Game One behind Brunson's heroics
The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs on the road in Game One of the 2026 NBA Finals. Despite a pair of early injury scares, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson turned on the afterburners and scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter of last night’s game for the 105-95 victory. Center Karl-Anthony Towns recorded a double-double, while forward Josh Hart added 15 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
On the other side, Spurs superstar center Victor Wembanyama struggled in his NBA Finals debut. Though the 22-year-old had a team-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, he also committed six turnovers and went six for 21 from the field.
My take: When Brunson went back to the locker room with the knee injury, I called the series over in favor of the Spurs because I catastrophize things. The fact that he not only came back but scored 13 points in the fourth is all the proof you need that he’s one of the five best basketball players in the world right now. What a gutsy performance!

QB Russell Wilson announces retirement to join CBS
Quarterback and former Seattle Seahawks legend Russell Wilson announced that he is stepping away from the NFL to join CBS Sports as an analyst. This comes two days after it was revealed that he would become a member of CBS's Sunday NFL pregame show.
"As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports and 'The NFL Today,' I'm so blessed to continue doing what I love most -- being around the greatest game in the world," Wilson said in a video posted to social media.
During his 14-year career, Wilson played for the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks, where he won a Super Bowl. Taken in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, he was named to ten Pro Bowls and earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2019.
My take: I'm surprised there wasn't a team out there that could use Wilson as a backup, but CBS probably gave him a boatload of money to become an analyst. Based on the backend of his career, I wouldn’t call him a Hall of Famer, but he’ll still end up getting the call to Canton one day because the first half of his career was Hall of Fame worthy.
Arrest warrant issued for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk
An arrest warrant has been issued for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk on a misdemeanor exhibition of speeding charge. The warrant comes after Aiyuk posted a video of himself in December driving past Levi's Stadium while going 40 miles per hour over the speed limit.
It has been almost two full years since Aiyuk last played in an NFL game. After signing a four-year, $120 million contract extension in August of 2024, he suffered a torn ACL and MCL against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week Seven of the 2024-25 season.
My take: This guy is so f*cking dumb. It was already obvious he would never suit up again for the 49ers. Now, he’s hurting his reputation to the point where NOBODY in the NFL will want to sign him if he is ever released by San Fran.
Packers' Micah Parsons won't return to the field until October at the earliest
Yesterday, Green Bay Packers star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who is recovering from a torn ACL, told reporters that he recently had a procedure done on his meniscus, which is expected to delay his return to the football field until at least mid-October. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, late September is the earliest that Parsons could begin practicing.
"The goal for me is to complete the season - not no relapse - and playoffs and pushing towards a championship," Parsons said. "The goal isn't for me to go out there and rehurt myself trying to force myself to get back the first few games. The goal has always been [to be available for the] playoffs, and I think we're all on the same page."
Parsons suffered a torn ACL against the Denver Broncos in Week 15 of the 2025-26 season. Three days later, he was placed on the season-ending injured reserve.
My take: It's worrisome that Parsons has a meniscus injury ON TOP of his torn ACL. Either way, he must not rush back from these injuries. If he has to miss a few more weeks of action this season to ensure his long-term health for years to come, then so be it.
Steelers and TE Darnell Washington reportedly agree to four-year extension
According to sources that spoke to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Pittsburgh Steelers and tight end Darnell Washington have agreed to a four-year, $42 million contract extension that includes $21 million guaranteed. Washington is coming off his best season as a pro, where he caught 31 passes for 364 yards and a touchdown in 16 games.
My take: This is not a great contract considering he's the number-two tight end in an unimpressive offense. This tells me that fellow tight end Pat Freiermuth, who is scheduled to have a $14.2 million cap hit next year, might be cut during the 2027 off-season.

Cristopher Sanchez's historic shutout streak ends at 50 2/3 innings
Yesterday, Philadelphia Phillies ace pitcher Cristopher Sanchez gave up his first earned run in over 50 innings when San Diego Padres first baseman Ty France reached home after outfielder Jackson Merrill hit a single in the top of the seventh inning. At 50 2/3 scoreless innings thrown, Sanchez set a Philadelphia Phillies franchise record. Simultaneously, his streak now ranks fifth in MLB history behind Oral Hershiser (59), Don Drysdale (58), Walter Johnson (55 2/3), and Jack Coombs (53).
Even though Sanchez gave up his first earned run since April 30th, the Phillies still beat the Padres to improve to 32-29 on the campaign. Catcher J.T. Realmuto and designated hitter Kyle Schwarber hit a pair of solo home runs in Philadelphia's 3-2 win.
My take: Sanchez is currently playing like the best pitcher in baseball. Unfortunately for him, the race for the NL Cy Young is absolutely stacked with Shohei Ohtani, Paul Skenes, and Jacob Misiorwski all in the running for the award. Though a Cy Young award would be awesome, Sanchez is probably happier that his team is tied for the second-best record in the Majors since the beginning of May (20-10).
Ohtani throws six scoreless innings in Dodgers' win over Diamondbacks
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani recorded six strikeouts while giving up zero runs in six innings pitched as LA beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-0. He also made his presence felt at the plate with three hits and one run scored in four at-bats. On top of that, outfielder Kyler Tucker had a great day, with three hits, a home run, and two RBIs.
My take: Shohei Ohtani continues to defy logic and cement himself as the most talented baseball player of all time. He has a 0.74 ERA and the sixth-best OPS in the MLB (.941). His batting average is also over .300. Not only will he win his sixth straight MVP, but he’s also my current favorite to win the NL Cy Young award.

Lightning's Jon Cooper wins first Jack Adams award
Tampa Bay Lightning bench leader Jon Cooper was named the 2025-26 Jack Adams Award winner, which is given each year to the best coach in the National Hockey League. Cooper led the Lightning to a 50-26-6 record as the team reached the postseason for the ninth consecutive year.
Cooper is the second coach in franchise history to win the award, joining John Tortorella, who took home the hardware in 2004.
My take: The Sabres' Lindy Ruff feels like a better choice since he helped end Buffalo's 15-year playoff drought. But I'm not going to lose sleep over Cooper winning the award.

Liberty win third straight game by beating Tempo
The New York Liberty defeated the Toronto Tempo, 97-82, to secure their third consecutive victory as they improved to 6-4 on the season. New York center Jonquel Jones was dominant with 22 points and 17 rebounds, while guard Breanna Stewart recorded 19 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
My take: This is what the Liberty need to be doing after getting off to a rocky start to open the season. You have to beat up on weaker teams to bolster your record. Once they fully integrate Sabrina Ionescu into the rotation, then they'll really be cooking!
