Premier League News: Why LiveScore Users Are Most Impressed By Brighton Going Into the International Break

There was a huge upset in the Premier League over the weekend as defending champions Arsenal fell to a 3-0 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion. Goals from Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andres saw the Seagulls down the Gunners at the Amex Stadium.

The result means Fabian Hurzeler’s side head into the international break in third place on 10 points, two behind Arsenal and five off league leaders Manchester City.

While there may be some form of recency bias following Saturday’s fine win over Mikel Arteta’s men, 53% of fans believe that Brighton are the Premier League’s most impressive team following the opening five games.

Of the 72.7k fans asked, the Seagulls were way out in front, with Hull City (19%) coming in second. Brentford and Leeds (both 7%) were third, with fans blown away by Brighton’s fine start to the 2026/27 campaign.

That’s hardly a shock given their flying performances under Hurzeler in the opening weeks of the season. Following Saturday’s win, Brighton have now scored 16 league goals, more than any other team in England’s top tier this term.

Experience key for Seagulls

And it’s not an anomaly either. Brighton rank top for possession (64.7%) in the Premier League this season. 15.2 shots per game is more than any other team. They’re generating more xG (11.5) and have the biggest xG overperformance (4.5) in the division. The latter may not be sustainable, but it’s certainly working for Brighton at the moment.

What’s more, a return of 12.4 chances created per game ranks third to Manchester United (16.2) and Nottingham Forest (12.8). Of course, it helps that Brighton have the Premier League’s best creator on the books.

Pascal Gross returned to the Amex back in January, and his move back to Brighton was welcomed with open arms. Even at 35 years of age, Gross is pulling strings with ease, evident in that he has created more chances (15) than any other player. The experienced German is the heartbeat of this Brighton side, and it’s evident by his and his side’s super start to the season.

And he’s not the only experienced figurehead in the side that is proving key to Brighton in terms of chance creation and dominance. 34-year-old centre-back Lewis Dunk is again proving a distribution machine in England’s top tier.

Dunk ranks top for passes per game (97.5) in the 2026/27 Premier League. Fellow centre-back Luka Vuskovic ranks 10th for this metric (71.6) and the Croatia international, among others, is playing an instrumental role.

Blending youth and experience

Hurzeler seems to have struck the right balance between experience and youth to boost Brighton’s chances of another European finish. Not only does Vuskovic rank third for total minutes of all Brighton players, but he’s one of a number of players aged 21 and under who Hurzeler has turned to on more than one occasion.

Kostoulas has led the line well, Malick Yalcouye has emerged as a rising star on the south coast, while Chema Andres shone on his full debut in the win over Arsenal. Jack Hinshelwood would have featured more prominently had he not sustained an ankle injury. Ibrahim Osman and Zadok Yohanna have each been handed minutes in the Premier League.

Finding the perfect middle ground is far easier said than done, but Hurzeler appears to have accomplished the feat.

Playing some of the most exciting football, and backing up the style with results, has certainly boosted Brighton this season. There were once doubts over Hurzeler and whether he could successfully build upon a solid debut campaign in England.

However, he’s silenced the critics and continues to take the club from strength-to-strength. It’s no wonder, then, that LiveScore users voted Brighton as the team that has impressed them the most in the season so far.
