Shinnecock Hills Golf Club will host the US Open for the sixth time
Brooks Koepka won the last one at the venue in 2018
This is a 7,440-yard par-70 layout, which has two par-fives and four par-threes
Recommended bets:
Scottie Scheffler occupies his now customary place at the head of the market for this week’s US Open as he seeks to join the elite group of six players who have won all four Majors.
However, the world number one has not won a tournament since January’s American Express and there could be others who emulate last year’s winner JJ Spaun when the world’s top golfers congregate at Shinnecock Hills in Long Island.

Fitzpatrick continues to fly
It is eight years since Brooks Koepka became the last player to win the US Open at Shinnecock Hills and Matthew Fitzpatrick, who finished 12th that year, is undoubtedly a much better player than he was then.
The Sheffield swinger won this tournament at Brookline four years ago and while that remains the landmark win of his career, the 31-year-old is enjoying a 2026 to remember.
Fitzpatrick has claimed victories at the Valspar Championship and the RBC Heritage, while also taking top spot alongside his brother Alex at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
An 18th at the Masters and 14th at the US PGA Championship have been strong Major performances this year and he has warmed up with second spot at last week’s Canadian Open, so he could be in for another strong show.

Great Scott can still be a factor
It is 13 years since Adam Scott won the Masters and it would be easy to scoff at his form in the biggest tournaments as he has not had a top-ten finish in the Majors since he was seventh at the 2019 US Open.
However, he is at the top of the PGA Tour’s strokes-gained: approach statistics and last month’s US PGA Championship has been the only occasion since July’s Open that he has failed to make the cut.
He bounced back from that Aronimink disappointment to finish 12th at the Memorial, closing with a 66 at Muirfield Village and his 12th at Oakmont last year means he should not be dismissed in what is traditionally golf’s sternest Major test.

Smith should not be ruled out
Another Australian who looks to be hovering under the radar is Cameron Smith, who ended a run of six straight Major missed cuts by finishing a surprising seventh at Aronimink.
Smith has not quite scaled the anticipated heights since winning the 2022 Open at St Andrews, but there have been encouraging signs recently.
He missed the cut at Shinnecock Hills eight years ago, but could flourish this time as he comes into competition having finished fifth in LIV Andalucia, on the notoriously difficult Valderrama in Spain .
