George Russell returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since the 2026 curtain-raiser at the Red Bull Ring in Austria last weekend, reigniting the intra-team battle between him and Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli for the World Drivers' Championship in the process.

Now, the teams touch down at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, and the Silver Arrows duo have been installed as favourites to take yet another race win on Sunday.

The last four British Grands Prix have each been won by drivers from different teams, with reigning world champion Lando Norris taking the victory in last year's edition for McLaren.

Mercedes last won in 2024 as Lewis Hamilton defied the odds, but it would be much less of a surprise if they topped the standings this time around.

The stats

Antonelli has not won either of the last two Grands Prix, while Hamilton has finished in the top two in three of the last four races.

Hamilton has won the British Grand Prix a record nine times and has finished on the podium in 14 of his 19 British Grands Prix.

Arvin Lindblad has finished in the points in his last three races.

Prediction

Russell clinched his first win since the season opener in Australia in last weekends Austrian Grand Prix, and he will be hoping a raucous home crowd can spur him on to a second successive race win in the British GP on Sunday.

The Briton has not had the best of fortune around Silverstone, but he is in a competitive car for arguably the first time in his career and knows that a follow-up to his success in Austria would firmly shift momentum back in his favour.

He still lags behind team-mate Antonelli by 40 points, but the Italian has had a difficult couple of races and may be on the back foot in Britain.

One home favourite who has not struggled at this circuit is Ferrari's Hamilton.

The seven-time world champion has won a record nine British Grands Prix, including a victory against the odds in 2024.

He has stood on the podium here 14 times and could have the potential to challenge at the sharp end this weekend.

Ferrari's car is not massively suited to Silverstone, but if any driver can get the best out of it at this circuit, it is Hamilton and the 41-year-old has finished in the top two in three of his last four Grands Prix, including a maiden win for Ferrari in Barcelona.

While Hamilton enters his 20th British Grand Prix, this will be Arvin Lindblad's first and the British teenager could be in for a points-scoring debut at his home race.

Lindblad has taken his Racing Bulls car to three straight top-ten finishes and will be looking to close the gap on team-mate Liam Lawson with another successful afternoon.
