Thomas Tuchel has signed a new deal with the England national team through to Euro 2028.

The German took over as Three Lions boss last January and successfully guided England to the 2026 World Cup with a 100% record having overseen eight wins from eight matches.

Tuchel’s initial contract was set to expire after the summer showpiece, but he has since agreed to extend his stay by a further two years.

England announce Tuchel contract

“Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract to lead England senior men through to UEFA EURO 2028 in the UK and Ireland,” a statement read on the England football website.

“Having guided the unbeaten Three Lions in a record-breaking qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States, Tuchel has agreed to stay on as head coach for an additional two years.

“England did not concede a single goal in the successful campaign, scoring 20 and have now been ranked in the world’s top five for seven-and-a-half years.

“Tuchel’s core support team - Anthony Barry, Henrique Hilário, Nico Mayer and James Melbourne - have also signed new contracts through to summer 2028.”

Tuchel 'very pleased' to extend contract

When asked how he felt about committing for another two years, Tuchel said: “I’m very pleased. It was me in the beginning that wanted a short-term contract only for 18 months because I was not sure what’s coming in international football; how fast can I adapt and what is the job all about?

“But very soon, I fell in love with the job and the role and I was from the first day very committed and very proud.

“Now, I felt in the last half-a-year - especially what we’re building and the spirit growing and creating a special bond between the players and having extraordinary results - it’s just a pleasure to extend and try to complete the full cycle of two tournaments.”

England face Uruguay and Japan in the first international break of the year next month.

The Three Lions then take on New Zealand and Costa Rica before the 2026 World Cup, where they have been drawn against Croatia, Ghana and Panama.
