The second round of World Cup group fixtures will get underway on Thursday with co-hosts Mexico and Canada among the teams in action. Mexico will be aiming to make it two wins from two in Group A when they take on South Korea, while Canada are eyeing their first-ever victory at a World Cup when they face Qatar in Group B. Elsewhere, the Czech Republic will get the day up and running when they face South Africa in Atlanta, which will be quickly followed by an all-European clash between Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Recommended bets:

Czech Republic vs South Africa (Thursday, 5pm)

The Czech Republic threw away a lead to lose their Group A opener against South Korea but they should have no problems seeing off a South Africa side that left an impression for the wrong reasons in the tournament's opening match.

Bafana Bafana had two players sent off and were perhaps fortunate to only go down 2-0 against Mexico, losing the shot count 16-3 and only producing an xG of 0.07.

Hugo Broos will demand an improvement from his side, but the Czechs, who are a particular threat from set pieces, should have the know-how to pick up their first World Cup victory since 2006.

Keeping a clean sheet may be difficult for Miroslav Koubek's side though, as they have failed to shut out any of their last five opponents, which includes matches against Iceland, Kosovo and Guatemala.

Switzerland vs Bosnia-Herzegovina (Thursday, 8pm)

Switzerland appeared to be strolling to victory against Qatar in their opener before they conceded a stoppage-time equaliser and they may face further frustration when they take on a tough-to-beat Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Bosnia are unbeaten in nine matches and have drawn six on the bounce, including their tournament opener when they came within 12 minutes of beating co-hosts Canada.

Italy, Austria and Wales are among the other teams that have failed to beat Bosnia over recent months and Switzerland's name could soon be added to that list.

Canada vs Qatar (Thursday, 11pm)

Canada's long wait for a first-ever World Cup win could come to an end in Vancouver when they take on a Qatar side that rode their luck against Switzerland.

Qatar only had 32 per cent possession in that game and lost both the shot count (26-6) and the xG battle (3.24-0.76) emphatically.

With a rapturous home support behind them, Canada, who won the teams’ only other meeting 2-0, cannot only make it 10 matches unbeaten, but they can secure a seventh clean sheet during that sequence as well.

Mexico vs South Korea (Friday, 2am)

Mexico and South Korea are both in strong positions after winning their opening matches, but it is the co-hosts, who have triumphed in the pair’s two previous World Cup showdowns, that are fancied to come out on top.

El Tri are on a nine-match unbeaten run in 2026, winning seven of those games, and they showed they can handle the pressure of being World Cup co-hosts following their dominant win over South Africa.

South Korea were the better side in their triumph over the Czech Republic, but this is a team that have shipped four against Ivory Coast and five in defeat to Brazil over recent months, so there are vulnerabilities that can be exploited by in-form Mexico.

Score prediction: Mexico 3-1 South Korea
