Transfer windows can rebuild a squad. This summer has created something more entertaining: an arms race up front.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Europe’s biggest Premier League clubs now boast attacking combinations that look ridiculous on paper. Picking the best of them is not easy, although one trio currently has the strongest statistical case.
Bayern set the standard
Luis Diaz, Harry Kane and Michael Olise get our vote.
Their Bundesliga numbers from last season are almost absurd. Kane scored 36 goals and provided five assists, Olise produced 15 goals and 19 assists, while Diaz finished with 15 goals and 14 assists.
That is 66 league goals and 38 assists between them, or 104 direct goal contributions.
Kane provides the ruthless finishing, Diaz attacks from the left and Olise brings creativity from the opposite flank. He’s the joker in the pack, with an unpredictable turn of pace and dribbling. There may be more fashionable combinations elsewhere, but Bayern’s trio already has production to match the names.
Madrid and Barcelona are terrifying
Real Madrid can counter with Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande.
Mbappe alone scored 25 LaLiga goals last season, adding five assists. Diomande brings another explosive one-on-one threat alongside two of world football’s most dangerous attackers.
Barcelona’s Anthony Gordon, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal offer a completely different kind of problem. Yamal, also named in our Wonderkids XI is set for a huge season.
He recorded 16 goals and 11 assists in LaLiga last season, while Raphinha managed 13 goals in just 22 appearances. Together, those two contributed 43 league goals and assists before Gordon is even added to the equation.
Premier League goes nuclear
Manchester City have perhaps the strongest challenger in England.
Antoine Semenyo, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden combined for 51 Premier League goals last season. Haaland supplied 27 of them, Semenyo scored 17 and Foden added seven.
Chelsea’s new combination of Morgan Rogers, Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer also deserves serious attention. Pedro scored 15 league goals last season, while Rogers registered 10 goals and six assists. All three then scored in Chelsea’s early-season win over Fulham.
Liverpool now have Bradley Barcola, Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz, while Manchester United can field Marcus Rashford, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Mbeumo and Cunha scored 21 Premier League goals between them last season.
Arsenal’s Christos Tzolis, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, plus Roma’s Paulo Dybala, Donyell Malen and Matias Soule, complete a frightening list.
Plenty could change once these new combinations settle.
For now, though, Bayern’s Diaz-Kane-Olise trio has the crown. The numbers are simply too big to ignore.
