Greece are top of Nations League Group A2 with seven points from three games and will be aiming to consolidate the position when facing third-placed Germany at Toumba Stadium on Sunday.

Failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup was a major disappointment for the Greeks, who have not featured on the biggest stage since reaching the round-of-16 at Brazil 2014.

But a lot of talented Greek players are coming through the system and the rewards have started to come with victories away to Serbia (2-1) and Germany (1-0) at the start of the 2026-27 Nations League campaign.

Expectations are rising and there was a sense of disappointment when Greece drew 2-2 at home to the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Ivan Jovanovic’s side had raced into a 2-0 half-time lead but they were pegged back by second-half goals from Virgil van Dijk and Tijjani Reijnders.

While Greece are looking to build on a strong start, Germany are playing catch up.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took just a point from their first two Nations League matches, but they stepped things up on matchday three with a dominant 2-0 success at home to Serbia.

Team news

Christos Tzolis was forced off during the 2-2 draw against the Netherlands and is unlikely to feature. Georgios Masouras came off the bench to grab a goal and an assist and should have earned a promotion to the starting XI.

Germany boss Klopp took the step of naming two different squads for this extended international break, and may well utilise a similar line-up to the one that took care of Serbia last time out.

Nico Schlotterbeck is an absentee after being forced to pull out of the squad ahead of Thursday's win, while Jonathan Burkardt will be hoping to displace Nick Woltemade up front.

Prediction

Germany made a slow start in Nations League Group A2, but they can seal a second win in four days by defeating Greece in Thessaloniki.

By effectively selecting two squads to cover the four games, Klopp was attempting to get a look at a larger group of players.

The strategy initially backfired, but there was an upturn in performance in Thursday’s 2-0 success over Serbia, and further improvement looks likely against the Greeks on matchday four.

Florian Wirtz wrapped up the goalscoring against Serbia and his vibrant performance earned plenty of praise from the manager.

Klopp feels that his style of play is ideally suited to Wirtz and there should be more to come from the 23-year-old Liverpool man, who can play a starring role in a high-scoring success.

Greece caught out the Germans with their 1-0 win in Augsburg but they tired in the second half of their draw with the Dutch and may struggle to cope with a fourth high-intensity match in 11 days.

Score prediction: Greece 1-3 Germany

Back Germany to win, Florian Wirtz to score anytime and over 2.5 goals at 9/2 with LiveScore Bet.
