Nottingham Forest vs Leeds (Premier League) – 3:00 pm

Oliver Glasner takes charge of a competitive Forest fixture for the first time on Saturday and though the Austrian boss would love to start his tenure with a victory, visiting Leeds look decently equipped to spoil the party.

Glasner’s former club, Crystal Palace, struggled in both meetings with Leeds last term, losing 4-1 at Elland Road in December before failing to lodge even a single shot on target against ten-man United in a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park in March.

Leeds were well on top in that contest before Gabriel Gudmundsson’s late first-half red card, though the Eagles never looked like capitalising on their one-man advantage in Croydon and finished the game with just 0.39 in xG. Those showings hinted that Daniel Farke might have the tactical edge on Glasner.

Forest’s players are also still adjusting to the 3-5-2 formation Glasner has introduced and they are unlikely to be fully comfortable in that system from the get go. In contrast, Leeds are a well-oiled machine under Farke and they impressed in pre-season wins over Sunderland (1-0) and Liverpool (4-2), as well as their 1-1 draw with Man Utd in Dublin.

Recommended bet: Leeds Double Chance

Blackburn Rovers vs Middlesbrough (Championship) – 3:00 pm

Blackburn gave as good as they got in their Championship campaign opener at Wolves and almost snatched what would have been a statement win before Raul Jimenez equalised from the penalty spot in injury time for Wanderers at Molineux.

The evidence from that 2-2 draw suggested Rovers can trade blows with Middlesbrough at Ewood Park on Saturday in what could be a similarly competitive, open contest.

A brace from debutant Will Lankshear fired Boro to a 2-1 victory over Lincoln on matchday one and Middlesbrough clocked 23 shots across that first assignment. Only Millwall registered more shots (24) on the opening weekend of the Championship.

Chance creation shouldn’t be an issue for Boro in Lancashire then, though they did struggle to keep clean sheets on the road last season under Kim Hellberg, claiming just four shut-outs in 25 away matches in total (regular campaign & playoffs). BTTS landed in 64% of the same games and that market appeals again at the prices on offer.

Recommended bet: Both Teams to Score

Rotherham United vs York City (League Two) – 3:00 pm

You can already tell that York are going to be an exciting addition to League Two, though they were always likely to entertain. They scored 114 goals last term and their matches in the 2025/26 National League averaged 3.36 goals per 90 minutes.

Their first game back in the Football League for a decade had the familiar thrills and spills York fans became used to last term. City won a topsy-turvy tie against Bristol Rovers by the odd goal in five (3-2), and they are unlikely to take their foot off the gas when they visit Rotherham.

The recently relegated Millers started life in the fourth tier with a 2-1 reverse at Cheltenham, a week after losing 4-1 to WBA in the Carabao Cup. Issues in defence are obvious, though Rotherham did rack up 19 attempts against Cheltenham and they are capable of similar here. The goal markets look ripe for plundering in this one.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 Goals

Lens vs Auxerre (Ligue 1) – 4:15 pm

Last season’s runners-up Lens start a fresh Ligue 1 campaign with what looks like a winnable home fixture against Auxerre on Saturday, and Les Sang et Or are priced generously to collect maximum points.

Lens lost popular manager Pierre Sage to Crystal Palace in the summer, though they pipped PSG to the French Super Cup (1-0) under new boss Dino Topmoller last weekend, which suggests their competitive edge hasn’t been dulled.

Auxerre meanwhile, beat the drop by the skin of their teeth in Ligue 1 last season and failed to win 15 of their 17 away matches in the division, while they also lost both encounters with Lens.

They’ve turned to former Lens manager Will Still to resurrect their fortunes, however, the 33-year-old isn’t likely to have the most jovial of reunions on his old stomping ground on Saturday.

Lens won more home games (14 out of 17) in Ligue 1 than champions PSG (13 out of 17) last term and they can pick up where they left off at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Recommended bet: Lens to Win

Brentford vs Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League) – 5:30 pm

Brentford kick the new campaign off as one of the Premier League’s most-settled outfits. Head coach Keith Andrews is secure in his role and the Bees kept hold of all of their best players over the summer.

Brentford closed out pre-season with fine 4-2 and 7-0 wins over Rennes and Eintracht Frankfurt, so they should be confident for their opener against Spurs.

They also know how to raise their game when hosting big teams at the Gtech Community Stadium. Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Aston Villa – and Spurs – all dropped points at that venue last term.

There is a buzz around De Zerbi’s Spurs following the club’s ambitious summer outlay. However, Tottenham could have three new faces in defence and two in midfield on Saturday evening, and it could take time for chemistry to develop. Brentford have a chance to capitalise on Spurs’ early uncertainty here.

Recommended bet: Brentford Double Chance
