Manchester United are among the favourites to win the Premier League title in 2026/27 – and doing so would see them crowned champions for a record-extending 14th time.
And Man United fans have been waiting a long time to taste top-flight glory again – well over a decade, in fact…
When did Man United last win the Premier League title?
Man United won their 13th and most recent Premier League title back in 2012/13, legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign before retiring.
Unquestionably one of the greatest coaches of all time, Ferguson led United to all 13 of those triumphs, the first of which came in the inaugural Premier League season of 1992/93.
Man United’s 2012/13 season in short
The 2012/13 campaign was a season of revenge for Man United, who had been pipped to the 2011/12 title by Sergio Aguero’s dramatic stoppage-time winner for Manchester City against QPR on the final day.
This time around, the title race didn’t go down to the wire, with United clinching glory with five games to spare and ultimately finishing 11 points ahead of their local rivals in second place.
Ferguson’s men won 28 of their 38 games, losing only five, with their final tally of 89 points their joint fourth-highest in the Premier League.
With 26 goals, United striker Robin van Persie won the Golden Boot – he was also one of only two players to score two Premier League hat-tricks in 2012/13.
How did Man United do the next season?
Ferguson’s departure marked the end of one of football’s great dynasties, and whoever followed him was going to have extraordinarily big shoes to fill.
As it was, Ferguson had already picked his successor: fellow Glaswegian David Moyes – who ended a long stint in charge of Everton to take over at Man United.
But, rather expectedly, United experienced a sharp drop-off in 2013/14 under their new boss, dropping to seventh in the table – their lowest-ever Premier League finish at the time.
Moyes failed to last the season, being sacked following a 2-0 home defeat to (ironically) Everton in April.
United legend Ryan Giggs took interim charge until the end of the campaign before Louis van Gaal was appointed on a permanent basis.
