Why Inter are wearing an unusual jersey against Real Madrid tonight

Inter are wearing an unusual jersey for tonight’s Champions League trip to Real Madrid, as otherwise they risked breaking the Spanish laws.

It kicks off at the Bernabeu in Madrid at 20.00 UK time (21.00 CEST).

The Nerazzurri begin their Champions League campaign on Spanish soil this evening and will take to the field in their usual blue and black stripes against the all-white Real Madrid kit.

However, there is something odd about the jersey tonight, because they are not allowed to display their shirt sponsor.

This is because their main sponsor is Betsson.Sport, who have been their main partners since 2024.

Spanish law, not dissimilar to the Italian one, bans football sponsorship from betting companies.

Curiously, the Nerazzurri were able to use their Betsson.Sport logo when playing at the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid in November 2025.

However, an appeal has since then wiped out the distinction between betting and sporting infotainment, so it is no longer allowable.

They are not the first to be put in this situation, as FC Kobenhaven also had to shelve their Unibet sponsorship logo when playing against Villarreal and Barcelona.
