Portuguese reports insist Roma are not that close to securing Rodrigo Mora, because the deal will fall through without sufficient purchase guarantees for FC Porto, so they are at an impasse.

Italian media claimed last night that the two clubs had practically reached a verbal agreement for the loan at €7-10m with option to buy at the end of the season for a further €40-43m.

Whatever the split, it would end up reaching the original €50m asking price.

Mora obligation clauses the problem for Roma

That could become an obligation if certain conditions were met, but this is where the problem has emerged, because Porto want very specific and easy to achieve guarantees Roma will buy the player outright.

Both A Bola and O Jogo in Portugal have the same warning today, which is that negotiations continued overnight with no significant progress.

It is a familiar tale to Roma fans who have seen several transfers be on the verge of going through, only to ultimately fall apart at the final hurdle.

It is believed Roma want the obligation to be activated only if they qualify for the Champions League, whereas FC Porto would prefer something more realistic like the Europa League or even Conference League.
