Video: De Roon arrives to complete Roma transfer
Marten De Roon has landed in the Italian capital and is ready to complete his transfer to Roma after spending the last nine seasons in Serie A with Atalanta.
The Dutchman has made more appearances for Atalanta than any other player in the club’s history with 445 outings across all competitions after joining from Middlesbrough in 2017, but is now considered surplus to requirements in Bergamo under new head coach Maurizio Sarri.
This has allowed Roma to move quickly to secure a low-cost deal for the 35-year-old, who had been into the final year of his contract with La Dea. The transfer also brings a reunion at Roma with De Roon’s long-term Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
A specific price tag for De Roon has not been mentioned in recent reports, but given his age, contract situation and his status within the Atalanta squad this season, it is likely that it will be a nominal fee.
The midfielder has been spotted arriving at the airport in the Italian capital and he is now expected to have his medical and contract signing before being officially announced as a new Giallorossi player.
