Juventus have agreed a deal with Tottenham to sign Guglielmo Vicario on an initial season-long loan, with an £8.5m (€10m) option to make the move permanent.

Sky Sports reported that Juventus turned to Vicario after cooling their interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Villa rejected an £8.5m offer for Martinez, while the club have agreed a £29.9m (€35m) deal with Parma for goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Vicario joined Tottenham from Empoli in 2023. Sky Sports News reported in June that he was expected to leave Spurs, with Antonin Kinsky identified as Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Juventus turn to Vicario

Juventus had previously targeted Martinez, but Villa’s valuation and the goalkeeper’s ongoing injury issues led the Italian club to focus on Vicario as talks over a return to Italy intensified.

The pursuit of Suzuki has left Martinez’s future at Villa in doubt. On August 5, a representative of the player told Sky Sports News that Martinez was happy at Villa and looking forward to the new season.

Loan agreement includes option to buy

The agreement gives Juventus the option to sign Vicario permanently for £8.5m (€10m) after the initial loan. It would take the goalkeeper back to Italy after his move from Empoli to Tottenham in 2023.

For Tottenham, the deal comes after Kinsky became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, according to Sky Sports News.
