Tuttosport: Milan’s €74m man – why Ramos should be an instant guarantee for Amorim

Of all the players on the field tonight in AC Milan’s season opener against Torino, the most eyes will be on Goncalo Ramos.
Tuttosport (via MilanNews) ask the question this morning: can a player who hasn’t yet played a competitive match be a sure thing? In the new Milan, yes, and the name is Gonçalo Ramos.
The Portuguese was strongly desired by Ruben Amorim and represents the most significant investment in the Rossoneri’s history with €74m paid to PSG. Gerry Cardinale personally moved to close the deal and immediately hand over to the coach the centre-forward he wanted.
A perfect fit?
Ramos arrived at Milan in excellent condition and has shown since the friendlies that he’s comfortable with Amorim’s attacking principles. He’s not just a finisher: he knows how to press, how to protect the ball, and participate in the build-up play.
Against Manchester United, he offered a full show of his repertoire with a headed goal and two assists, one starting with the ball at his feet and the other working with his back to goal. These are characteristics that seem perfect for the Rossoneri’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
But one thing is expected of Ramos above all: goals. Between 2023 and 2026, he scored 45 goals for PSG, averaging a goal every 120 minutes, the best among Ligue 1 players with at least 50 appearances overall for one club.
These are significant numbers for a Milan side that hasn’t had a striker score more than 20 goals in a season since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 28 in 2011-12. Amorim has therefore entrusted Ramos with the key to the attack, while Cardinale has invested a record sum: now it’s up to Milan’s new No.9 to turn those expectations into goals.
