Tuttosport: Maignan, signings and 12 exits – Cardinale arrives to accelerate Milan’s mercato

Today could be a crucial day for AC Milan’s mercato, as Gerry Cardinale is expected at Milanello to discuss the situation with Ruben Amorim.

Milan’s transfer campaign is far from over, and on the contrary there are still several things to do. The Milan manager had the opportunity to evaluate his entire squad during the tour of Australia and Indonesia, and today he will have the opportunity to communicate his decisions.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report this morning that Amorim will first decide which players are eligible for sale as they are not part of his plans. Among those leaving are Athekame, Cissé, Odogu, Fofana, Filippo Terracciano, Bondo, Estupinan, Tomori, Gimenez, Ricci, Musah and Leao.

The latter’s future, however, remains a major conundrum. The Portuguese winger is still hoping for a call from a Premier League team, but for now only Galatasaray are interested and even they may have moved on to other names.

Remaining signings targeted

Once a few sales are completed, Milan will be able to continue their campaign to strengthen the squad. Another centre-back is sought, and Amorim’s dream remains Sporting CP’s Gonçalo Inacio.

A wing-back could also arrive (with Atalanta’s Nicola Zalewski linked) and a midfielder (Marseille’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a popular name), but these discussions are contingent on departures.

A new attacking midfielder remains a key objective. In recent weeks, Matias Soulé (Roma), Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal), and Dario Osorio (Midtjylland) have been explored and put forward, while yesterday in Germany the name of Köln’s Said El Mala also surfaced.

During today’s meeting with Amorim, Cardinale will reiterate a point that must be clear to everyone: Mike Maignan is not for sale. There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the Milan captain in recent days for requesting extra time off, but he will be told that a move this summer is off the cards.
