Subs shine but several struggle: Player ratings for Juventus-Milan from Italian papers

AC Milan were close to making it three wins from three to begin the new campaign, but conceded a late equaliser against Juventus.

The first half was not lacking in intensity but came up short in terms of quality. Then, in the second half, the game sprung into life: substitute Alphadjo Cisse opened the scoring with a lovely finish after cutting in on his right, but Federico Gatti’s header earned Juve a draw in added time.

You should of course read our player ratings first, but this morning’s newspapers have delivered their verdict on yet another draw played out between the two great rivals of Italian football.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have given Milan’s overall performance a 6 out of 10, which is the same mark given to Ruben Amorim’s management of the game. The best played was Alphadjo Cisse (7), while they adjudged Alexis Saelemaekers (5) to have struggled.

A 7 was awarded to Mario Gila, with 6.5s going to Mike Maignan, Koni De Winter, Luka Modric and Samuel Chukwueze. Everyone else got a pass but for Diego Moreira, Pervis Estupinan, Adrien Rabiot (5.5s) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (5).

Corriere dello Sport gave De Winter a 7, which is the same grade they gave the goal scorer Cisse. Praise was dished out to Maignan, Gila, Modric and Chukwueze (6.5s). Pavlovic, Moreira, Rabiot and Loftus-Cheek struggled (5.5), as did Ramos and Saelemaekers (5).

Finally, Tuttosport handed out 5s to Ramos, Rabiot and Moreira. Plaudits instead went to Maignan, Modric and Chukwueze (6.5s) while they were left very impressed by Cisse (7.5). Pavlovic, Musah, Estupinan and RLC got 5.5s, as did the coach Amorim.
