Spalletti praises Juventus transfer work: ‘The perfect market doesn’t exist any more’

Luciano Spalletti has offered his verdict on Juventus’ summer business, praising the club’s directors and explaining what Nick Woltemade and Pape Matar Sarr will add to his side.

Speaking to Sky Sport, with quotes via AlfredoPedulla.com, the Juventus boss was pragmatic about how the window played out. “The perfect market doesn’t exist any more, the possible market exists,” he said.

“Our directors were very good at getting themselves into the right situations and adapting to what the market offered. We covered our needs by position and brought home several players. Having added players used to a fast, physical brand of football, where the time you have to think is much reduced, will take the level of our team higher.”

Woltemade, signed on loan from Newcastle on deadline day, drew warm words from the coach, along with a clear instruction.

“He brings two worlds together in the way he plays. He’s very good at coming to link with the team, he’s light in his technique, he knows football, he can come and knock the ball around in the final third and then attack the spaces. Heading and finishing are things that, whether he likes it or not, he’ll have to learn by heart. Since I’ve known him he’s been smiling constantly: he’s delighted to be here.”

Sarr, meanwhile, was described in terms of his energy and range.

“He breaks up the passing rhythm, he knows every zone of the pitch. You see him arriving at two thousand miles an hour on the opponents’ defensive line, you see him tracking back onto his own defensive line to make a tackle. He has physicality, he covers a lot of ground, technical quality, and he knows how to fit into the team’s play.”

Juventus host Milan on Sunday having won their opening two fixtures against Frosinone and Parma.
